Hmm....
Good question.
3D bluray disks will only be done for select movies.
It won't be made for most--- as 3d is synthesized with hours and hours of layer-mastering. This is costly for the Disc manufacturers so they won't make 3d out of every movie available.
Not even all movies come bluray these days... especially the old ones. Only a few select top movies get remastered to Bluray.
Hope this helps!

Is it ok to start a blu ray collection now?If you can handle the fact that blu-ray WILL be superseeded at some point by a 'better' format, then Yes, start your collection.
It may not happen tomorrow, it may not even be 3D blu-ray but one day there will be something that makes your blu-ray collection look old-hat. Look at vinyl record collectors or regular DVDs. There are plenty of examples of people out there with big collections of something that has been superseeded.
Personally I don't believe that 3D blu-ray will catch on seriously anytime soon. It just doesn't work well enough or easily enough, and historically there seems to be a burst of 3D movies every seven or eight years. Is it ok to start a blu ray collection now?
You can keep building your library. 3D Blu Rays will work on regular blu ray players as well, and will give you a 3D experience, but it wont be like Imax 3D where you're dodging objects that are flying towards you. The image will come out of the screen (which is cool for the first couple times) but will lose its touch very quickly. UNLESS you have a 3D TV. Then thats a whole new story. 3D TVs will give you the IMAX experience in your own home. But if you're worried that 3D will take over standard blu ray, its not very likely. Like the previous poster had said, not all movies will be made in 3D, it will only be a select few.
For the guy who said 3d movies will work on regular players, this is FALSE. The only player that might be able to support an upgrade to 3d is the ps3. YOU NEED A NEW PLAYER.
To answer the question though, stay away from movies that were released in 3D if you care about that (I think it's a fad that will quickly die) and you're fine.
Not all future Blu Rays will be released as 3-D so it should be okay to start collecting now. Not all movies are suitable for 3-D treatment either. The 3-D blu ray player will play standard blu ray and standard DVDs
