How to get best picture with my blu-ray?

I have a samsung series 5 1080p tv. I just got a sony s350 blu-ray for christmas. Does my tv automatically put out 1080p or will i need to get a hd box to get a better picture with my blu-ray player. Also what are some tips to get the best possible picture, because it doesn't look as good as in the storesHow to get best picture with my blu-ray?
Go into the BluRay setup menu and tell it to output 1080p.

Then get a copy of the BluRay version of "Digital Video Essentials" for about $18 on Amazon. Go through the tutorials on setting the contrast, brightness, color to turn the TV down from "torch mode".

You can also use "Cars" or "Wall-E" which have setup test patterns that instruct you how to set the basic adjustments.

Note: Displays in the store are turned up to 100% brightness and contrast to be eye-catching. This is NOT the best image quality - but it does get attention. Use the tutorials to tone things down and you will get a much better picture than the store. Not as bright, but better. How to get best picture with my blu-ray?
You would probably have to configure certain things on the blu-ray player first because just like the Playstation 3 it does not output 1080p automatically; and to get better quality picture; you can go and talk to somebody in Future Shop or Best Buy; they can probably help you out a lot more seeing as they're experts. How to get best picture with my blu-ray?
I am sorry that you had to endure Stan L's response...

Yes...you need to run the menu setup feature on the TV to determine if you have it ready for 1080p signal.

Also you need to make sure that you are using the HDMI cable since it carries HD signals will regular coaxial (red, white, yellow) cables don't.

Also check the input on the TV and make sure that you have the Blu-Ray plugged in to the right source input.
