Can I watch Blu Ray on my computer with a VGA cable?

I'm going to purchase a blu ray drive for my PC. I have a 1080p lcd monitor and a 4850 graphics card. But my monitor connects to the 4850 by VGA and not DVI or HDMI. How do I achieve the best quality picture and video with my Samsung LN40A550 and my Samsung Blu Ray Player? What techniques and settings are the best? How do I achieve the Best Quality Video with my Samsung TV and Blu Ray?
Use a HDMI cable. Inexpensive works fine as long as the runs are less than about 12 feet.

Buy a copy of the BluRay version of Digital Video Essentials. Use the tutorials to adjust the color/brightness/contrast between your BluRay player and your TV.

You cannot simply use anyone elses numbers because your equipment is different from others. The adjustments are there BECAUSE of these differences.

Many Pixar disks like the new Wall-E disk have simple test patterns and instructions, but Digital Video Essentials is better. How do I achieve the Best Quality Video with my Samsung TV and Blu Ray?

Via the HDMI connection. This will give you the highest possible resolution from these two components. Now, set both your TV and Blu-Ray Disc player on 1080p. If your HDTV has a max resolution of 1080i, then set your BD player to 1080i.

Why cant my Blu Ray player get a signal from my router?

I have a Samsung Blu-Ray player that is hooked up to Linksys Cisco Gaming adapter. I have this problem often where the Adapter(Living Room) will not pick up signal from my Linksys Router(Bedroom). Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesnt. So I am unable to watch Netflix. Are these two not compatible? Do I need a specific router/ adapter? Someone please help! Why cant my Blu Ray player get a signal from my router?
No if it sometimes works then what you probably need to do is get your wireless adapter up higher. If it is stuffed in the back of your player the signal is most likely being blocked. So you need to somehow get it extended.

Time to do some measurements and research:

Does it use a standard RJ45 plug ( Ethernet plug ) if so get a Ethernet coupler at RadioShack and a few extra feet of Ethernet cable and some Velcro.

If the wireless adapter uses USB, then get a USB extension cable and some Velcro.

Stick the wireless adapter up high out of the cabinet you might have it in.

Rule of thumb: Higher is always better when it comes to antennas.

Personally.... I would just run a long Ethernet cable from your router to your DVD player. But that's me. Pure signal no chance for error.

  • What is the difference between 1080p and 1080i? Is 1080p only found in blu ray players?

I have an hdtv and my dvd, when connected to a hdmi cable, can have different resolutions including 1080p and 1080i. But I dont really see any difference between both of them. What is wrong? What is the difference? If I buy a blu ray player will the audio and visuals be better? What is the difference between 1080p and 1080i? Is 1080p only found in blu ray players?
Well, 1080i and 1080p are different resolutions, some HDTV's are able to handle 1080p (high-end) resolutions, others are able to handle up-to a 1080i (mid) resolutions, still others are only able to display 720p (low-end) resolutions. The scale is as follows:

    1) Best - 1080p - currently the best technology available (found in high-end HDTV's)

    2) Middle - 1080i

    3) Bottom - 720p

However, the difference between 1080p and 720p is barely noticable to the most trained eye.

To answer your question, you can only receive the resolution your hdtv is compatible with. Example if you have a 1080i HDTV and you buy a blu-ray player that is capable of displaying in 1080p, you will only get the 1080i resolution that your HDTV is compatible with.

And, I have both a 1080p and a 1080i hdtv and I cannot tell the difference.... Hope this helps. What is the difference between 1080p and 1080i? Is 1080p only found in blu ray players?
Basically the only difference is in how often a full-screen image is refreshed.

1080i refreshes at half the rate of 1080p because it uses a technique known as scan-line interlacing. It draws every odd line, then every even line - but it only goes from top to bottom at the same rate as the Progressive scan (1080p) and thus only draws a full image frame at half the rate.

1080p is pretty much beyond the eye's ability to actually see under most circumstances. What is the difference between 1080p and 1080i? Is 1080p only found in blu ray players?

Should I wait to get a blu ray player or are there enough good ones now to choose from?

I would have gotten a PS3 but I already have a Wii and an Xbox 360 and it would be too nerdy to get one of those. I don't want to be seen as some kind of gaming nerd. Should I wait to get a blu ray recorder when more of them are released, I would really like one of them.Should I wait to get a blu ray player or are there enough good ones now to choose from?
Hopefully you already have a full1080p TV if not you would be wasting money on a bluray until you had a 1080p tv. many to choose from and many different price ranges as well. Your choice mate in actuality though a PS3 makes the most sense game system and bluray so what if you have the other two it just means you have choices.
I would say if you can wait...then wait...I remember when the 1st dvd player came out i brought one of the 1st, it was nearly 200quid, and all it was massive! Now i can get one for 15quid from tesco and it does twice as much.

They will come down in price in the next couple of years, dvds are getting cheaper. I think its a sign that they are on there way out.Should I wait to get a blu ray player or are there enough good ones now to choose from?
DUUUDE get a PS3Should I wait to get a blu ray player or are there enough good ones now to choose from?
Then get the Sony BDP-S360, or BDP-S560, both are good.
You can probably wait since prices only go down. Amazon had a killer deal about a month ago where you get $125 off either the Samsung 1600 or 3600 when buying four Blu-ray discs. Choosing wisely you could get four movies and the 1600 for about $180. That's the best deal I've seen so far when it comes to Blu-ray player pricing.
Prices are still going down, how much they will go down I can't tell you. If you want to get one now get a Panasonic DB-60 for $299 it is the best one in the market. Go online to Home Theater Magazine and they reviewed the Panasonic, Sumsang and the Sony model, it was on July issue. Just make sure you have a tv that's also a 1080P, if you don't wait till you get one before buying a Blue Ray Disc player. One other thing if your tv is small than a 46" you won't be able to tell the difference between 720 and 1080P. Hope this helps.

Can I used a regular pc blu ray drive on a PS3?

I just want to know if I can install a regular pc blu-ray drive on a backwards compatible 80GB PS3.Can I used a regular pc blu ray drive on a PS3?
Nope first off all it uses a slotloading not a trayloading blu-ray. Just saying and just like the Xbox 360, the drive and the PS3's motherboard are married. This means if you connect another drive [if even possible usually this uses special wires] it will be recognized as a wrong drive.

Call Sony and let them fix it for their flat fee. It is cheaper! As in you get a working system back [even your own if you don't mind waiting] for that fee.Can I used a regular pc blu ray drive on a PS3?
    No, the drive is proprietary.

  • How do i make a internet connection to my blu-ray dvd player?

I wanna make it wireless cause it looks cool to use internet through blu-ray.

So how do you do it?

Cause in the menu it has a internet link and I don't know how to connect it to the internet.

Thanks! How do i make a internet connection to my blu-ray dvd player?
I'm assuming your blu-ray player does not have a built in wireless adapter. Check the specs to see if it does.

Most likely, as with my bluray player, it has an ethernet port in the back (the plug that looks like a bigger phone jack). There, you can plug an ethernet cord from your router to your bluray player.

If your bluray player is not close to your router (if you have one), your only other option to connect it wirelsesly is to buy a wireless adapter and connect it to a wireless connection that is created by a wireless router. Then, you can use that adapter to recieve the wireless signal that is emitted by the wireess router. In which case, you could connect that adapter to the bluray player via ethernet cord.

--This is what I do. The adapter I use is the Linksys WGA600N, which works fine.

What is the benefit of a Blu Ray DVD player?

Keep in mind that my current dvd player is brand new and the picture quality is great. Blu ray I have heard has had sharper picture quality? Is that the only reason to get one? What is the benefit of a Blu Ray DVD player?
Yes, that's pretty much the reason to get one - better picture. The sound is also better, but the picture is where you will see most of the difference. What is the benefit of a Blu Ray DVD player?
A Blue-Ray player will upscale your picture and sound to an amazingly crisp 1080p. You can definitely tell the difference. A Blue-Ray player will even make your regular dvd's look better. If you like movies and have the money, I would completely recommend one.

What is the advantage of a Blu-Ray disc to a normal DVD disc?

Quality. More 'HD' look than regular dvds. Might as well worth the money if you realliy like the movie so much as you would want to enjoy the screen's quality. What is the advantage of a Blu-Ray disc to a normal DVD disc?
Blu-Ray discs have a little better picture and sound quality, but unless the blu-ray is only a few dollars more than the regular I wouldn't bother. You can't tell that much difference, especially for the price of new blu-rays.What is the advantage of a Blu-Ray disc to a normal DVD disc?

How do I get my Panasonic Blu-ray Player to start where I left off?

Blu-ray discs use software on the disc for playback, which is different from the way DVDs are published. If a Blu-ray disc is authored with BD-J (Blu-ray disc Java), then resume play may not work on a Blu-ray disc player. They have to include a resume feature within the Java software to allow resume, and not all discs have it.

Is it possible to connect a blu-ray reader to an acer netbook?

I am looking for a way to watch movies with my acer netbook. I know

I can download but I'm not good at that. Is it possible to connect

something like a blu-ray reader to a netbook without a disc drive? Is it possible to connect a blu-ray reader to an acer netbook?
You can get external Blu-Ray drives from manufacturers such as LG (http://www.amazon.co.uk/LG-BE06LU10-External-Blu-Ray-DVD-ROM-retail-kit/dp/B0015LRTOS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8%26amp;s=electronics%26amp;qid=1247559252%26amp;sr=8-1) and hook them up.

You'd still need the software to play it, such as PowerDVD or at least something like AnyDVD combined Media Player Classic Home Cinema so you don't have to worry about being hardware compliant if you wanted to output from your netbook to TV over anything which does not have HDCP.

Other problems you may encounter would be the lack of computational power in a netbook for playing back that kind of video, unless your graphics card is capable of decoding H.264/VC-1 in hardware. Also, unless you are planning on showing the movie on a TV, the image your monitor would show would be waaay below blu-ray resolution and it would be fairly pointless (for example the Acer Eee has a display whose resolution is similar to a DVD video).

The best bet would be to watch DVDs on the netbook and buy a stand-alone Blu Ray player for home. Quite a few new releases on Blu Ray either come with a DVD in the box, or a digital copy which you could take with you on the netbook.

Is there a significant difference between regular DVDs and blu-ray dvds on any tv?

I have a Sony Bravia with 720p and 1080i. All the blu-ray DVD players I see seem to have output of 1080p. Does this difference matter or will I still see a much better picture with a blu-ray player on my tv?Is there a significant difference between regular DVDs and blu-ray dvds on any tv?
Standard DVD movies are still in the 480P and your 720 is much better. The Blue Ray disc movies are all in 1080P, playing it on your 720P tv will look good compare to a standard DVD. Most DVD on the market now converts them to 1080P, but not quit as good as you would get from a Blue Ray disc movies. Remember you won't be able to tell the difference between 720P and 1080P in screen size smaller than a 46".
Even 720p is worlds better than a standard DVD. You know how bad regular TV looks now that you've started watching HD channels? That's the difference you will see when you compare bluray to your old DVDs.Is there a significant difference between regular DVDs and blu-ray dvds on any tv?
Why would you play a Blu-Ray on a regular television?

The picture might be clearer, but you won't see a foreseeable difference if you're playing a Blu-Ray on a regular definition TV.

Now if you use an HDMI cable and plug the Blu-Ray to a 1080p 240hz HDTV, then your eyes won't believe what they are seeing. Is there a significant difference between regular DVDs and blu-ray dvds on any tv?
Honestly... I would not go with blu Ray if I were you. Yes it is leaps and bounds ahead of DVD ( which is a 480p resolution) but blu Ray used to it's full potentil needs a full HDTV (1080p capabilities) and preferebaly a tv ABOVE 50". Because the resolution of blu Ray is made for hi clarity and resolution on on large screens. Why? Because it is capable of doing so. Example

if you watched a blu Ray ona tv 46" or less that IS full 1080p the screen is so small that everything is very compressed already so it's difficult to see alot of intricate details and differences. But on a 60" your going to see alot of things different and larger. Where this is where the BR resolution will come in making the picture that much better

In your situation I would not go blu Ray unless u got a new tv. Your best bet would be to get an upscaling DVD or br player. Which will upconvert all your DVDs to HD quality ( usually 720p ). that would be your best bet considering that would give you the best picture quality for the tv u have now. And yes blu rays and players are all full 1080p

edit**** 240 hs means nothing on blu Ray. The guy above me is gonna confuse u with that. So don't listen to him. Tvs with ( motion plus or refresh rates ) are for things such as standard and HD television where they don't have the resolution capabilities to keep up with fast moving video. And IMO is worthless anyways. Blu Ray does not need any processing advances at all ( dynamic contrast, filters and yes even the 240 hs refresh rates ) lol
Just as there is a big difference between HD (720p, 1080i, 1080p) and SD programming there is a big difference between HD (Blu-ray) and SD (DVD) movies. Upscaling DVD players improve a DVDs picture, but they still don't look as good as Blu-rays. Whether or not this improvement is justified by the cost is a personal decision. I believe the improved picture quality is justified, so I bought an HDTV and a Blu-ray player.
Without getting into the technicalities, I have a 1080i 61" HDTV and BluRay looks like my HD channels so for me the answer is yes.

How do I connect a 5.1 surround sound system to both blu ray and xbox 360?

Just find a multi-jack which can combine both outputs in one place!
Providing that your 5.1 surround sound system has an optical audio input. Then you can connect an optical audio cable from the tv to your surround sound system. Keep in mind that those home theater in a box are not flexible for adding anything to it. They are designed for you to watch a movie with surround sound only. A receiver is the best choice or you can purchase one of them sound bars. The only system I would recommend that is considered a home theater in a box is the Onkyo HT-S3400, it is a 5.1 receiver and a set of speakers. Hope this will help you out.How do I connect a 5.1 surround sound system to both blu ray and xbox 360?

How do I get Dolby TrueHD audio from my Playstation 3 with Blu-Ray?

I heard that Dolby TrueHD is the best uncompressed format for digital audio on Blu-Ray, and I also know that you can transfer TrueHD through HDMI. My audio amplifier for surround sound has a digital coaxial and optical input supported. Is it possible to get trueHD audio? Thanks for the help. How do I get Dolby TrueHD audio from my Playstation 3 with Blu-Ray?
All you need are an HDMI cable and a compatible HDMI switching or repeater receiver ( some cheapest cost around $400 ). Optical cable can't send new HD sound formats from PS3 to receiver. You have to set Linear ( Lpcm ) on PS3 HD/DVD sound settings ( don't set bitstream ), PS3 will decodes HD sound and sends it via HDMI to receiver.
Some people are a little misinformed....first of all Dolby TruHD IS COMPRESSED. But by listening to it, you would not be able to tell the difference between PCM (Uncompressed Audio). The Ps3 can also decode DTS-HD Master Audio (Also compressed, but sounds amazing). Depending on the Movie Studio, certain titles will have at least one of these encoded soundtracks. To Get These HD Sound codecs YOU NEED AN HDMI CABLE!! Optical WILL NOT WORK! Currently, The PS3 can decode all three formats, but cannot Bitstream DTS-MA to your receiver to decode. So as long as you have your PS3 decoding the audio, pretty much any receiver will work and output the HD sound. How do I get Dolby TrueHD audio from my Playstation 3 with Blu-Ray?
one issue that you'd have to deal with is that some ps3's are not yet able to output truhd to other devices, that is, the receiver. ps3 may be able to read it but not necessarily able to output it as is; output format is recognized by receivers as multi-ch pcm.

get in touch with sony to inquire if your ps3 could have a firmware update for this issue.

and by the way, since truhd is digital, sound format support should also be using digital media, that is, hdmi and optical.

;)How do I get Dolby TrueHD audio from my Playstation 3 with Blu-Ray?
You can only hear Dolby TrueHD through HDMI and analog, not Optical...
use the optical connection between both. Make sure you buy a good quality cable

Is the blu-ray player in the PS3 the same quality as a stand alone player?

I am upgrading my home theatre around "Black Friday" and want to add either blu-ray or a PS3. My concern is that the player in the PS3 is of lesser quality than an acutal blu-ray playerIs the blu-ray player in the PS3 the same quality as a stand alone player?
It's the same as any other blu-ray player really: same quality and outputs as the lower end ones. It just happens to be a console too.
I disagree, I own both a stand alone bluray sony and a ps3. there is a world of difference between the quality for me. PS3 is inferior in all respects, it stutters in panning and there is visible noise in dark areas. Some discs look as bad as regular DVD. IF you want true quality DO NOT consider ps3

Is the blu-ray player in the PS3 the same quality as a stand alone player?
No...simple as that.Is the blu-ray player in the PS3 the same quality as a stand alone player?
it's the same thing as far as I know.
Video and Audio Quality wise, there is absolutely no difference. The PS3 is one of the best, and it is also the most capable Blu-ray Player. It is Profile 2.0 compatible, and it has a really fast loading speed. The build-quality and noise is top-notch as well.

The only things "bad" about it would be no analog-out for audio. However, it does have HDMI and Optical-Out for audio.
The quality is exactly the same. Just make sure you use an HDMI cable to hook the PS3 up your HD TV. In addition to playing Blu-Rays and standard DVDs, PS3's can play games (PS3, PS3, and PS1), videos (from your camera or computer), and you can store all of your music on it like an ipod.

  • Would it be best to buy the Blade Runner ultimate edition on blu-ray instead of dvd?

Hi, Blade Runner happens to be one of my favorite movies and I can't wait to get my hands on this set, the only question is that will it be better to buy the blu-ray version over the DVD version as I doubt I will buy a blu-ray player but will have a PS3. Will it be the same audio/sound quality as it would be coming from a stand alone player. As I want the best quality for this class movie

Thanks!Would it be best to buy the Blade Runner ultimate edition on blu-ray instead of dvd?
I don't think there's much of a difference between HD DVD and Blu-ray except for the fact that Blue-ray players cost more. I would just buy a regular DVD version, but if ur already going to get the PS3, then go for the Blu-ray version so u don't have to spend more money on an HD DVD playerWould it be best to buy the Blade Runner ultimate edition on blu-ray instead of dvd?

If the answer is no, then save some $ and buy a regular dvd.

What type of HD cable do you need to connect from your blu-ray player to the TV?

I recently got a new HD TV and I already had a blu-ray DVD player, the installer told me to get an even better picture on my TV I should buy a "HD cable" to connect from my blu-ray player to my tv. What type of cable was he talking about and does it really make a lot of difference in picture quality?

Thanks! What type of HD cable do you need to connect from your blu-ray player to the TV?
HDMI cable which is used for High Definition. There are a couple of different HDMI cables, but the most important to remember is that a $100 cable and $30 one will show absolutely no difference, so don't get caught by those sellers trying to make you buy an HDMI cable for $100.

You can check here for more information on HDMI cables (there's versions 1.0, 1.1, 1.2, 1.3 and 1.4): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDMI#Versio鈥?/a>

Generally, you'll want an HDMI 1.3, or if it's for 3D, you'll want 1.4. It usually is written on the box/bag which version it is.What type of HD cable do you need to connect from your blu-ray player to the TV?
Cables WILL show differences in picture quality! V1.0 to V1.4 all have the same number of wires, so why are they different? QUALITY! (The spec calls for higher quality) and 'cheap' cables are NOT made from quality copper/insulation etc...fact! Stay clear of cheap 'chinese' made cables.

What do I look for in order to buy a very good Blu-ray player ?

I want to buy a decent blu-ray player and would like to ask the experts on here what features and so on I should look out for when buying one . Thank you. What do I look for in order to buy a very good Blu-ray player ?
    check out www.cnet.com
You can read all the reviews of blu-ray players you want, but nothing out there is better than the PS3. Even in the reviews I've read, they always compare the blu-ray player to the PS3. It carries the best sound, the best picture, has the Internet uplink to support live updates of software, is HDMI v1.3, and has the quickest load time. Oh, and rumors state it's about to drop in price by $100 within the next month or so.What do I look for in order to buy a very good Blu-ray player ?
The basic issue is how good the movie looks, after that I would suggest: how good DVD's look (players vary in how well they scale DVD); whether it has / you need HD audio decoders built in; what other capabilities it has (e.g. play games, stream netflix); and whether it is Profile 2.0 compatible (allows on-line extras). How well the manufacturer supports the player through regular firmware updates may also be a consideration.

Different players have a variety of pros and cons. You really need to decide what matters to you since, in general, better quality / more capability equates with higher price.

The best deal by far right now is the Pioneer BDP51FD Profile 1,1 player @ $284 (See link). It's not perfect, but it's considered a top notch player in most ways (CD, DVD and BD playback quality, build quality, multichannel analog audio support, tweekability, etc) but isn't a good choice if you want Profile 2.0 support (Personally I think that's well worth passing on to get exemplary performance in other areas).

But, I say again, you have to define what matters to you and decide accordingly. What do I look for in order to buy a very good Blu-ray player ?
you have to make sure that its got everything you want. For example: do you watch the special features? then you want your player to be BD live ready with 2.0 firmeware. Brand is also a big deal. right now the BEST blu-ray player on the market is the PS3. If you can hold off for awhile longer there should be a price drop around the corner.

you also want to buy an HDMI cable... DONT BUY IT AT A STORE. buy it online where they can run from 5-10 bucks... i got 3 and 2 where 6 bucks each and one was 3 bucks. If you have a frys electronics near you buy it there.
Try not to sweat the details... if you don't know what to look for, just visit amazon, browse to blu-ray players, and sort by highest rating. Then just buy the best rated one for the money. My Samsung BD-1400 SUCKS. It takes 120 seconds to load a disc most of the time. Still gorgeous picture and sound though.

The 1500 and up are much faster.
the Panasonic DMP-BD55K is expensive. But its superb image quality, excellent design, and wide feature set make the DMP-BD55K a tempting choice for shoppers with deep enough pockets.

Other than converting the movies which will result to video and audio quality degradation, you may create an exact image of the disc in ISO format so it will be saved in the hard drive. If you need to access the image, mount it on a virtual drive so you don't have to keep the blu-ray disc with you. Here's a free software that you can use for that purpose:

So has blu ray basically won the format war?

With Warner's annoucement on Friday- Blu ray will have 70% of the market. What will happen to HD DVD? Will it turn into what Beta is now- something only creepy old guys who never leave their apartment use?So has blu ray basically won the format war?
I don't like the idea of Blu-ray "winning" (the misleading advertizing and arrogance associated with Blu-ray turned me off relative to the relative integrity of the HD DVD campaign) but it is in the interest of (almost) everyone that there be one format for HD disks.

I suspect that other studios will fairly quickly drop HD DVD and convert to Blu-ray if not already doing so.

The issues in my view are not whether Blu-ray will be "THE" HD disk format (it clearly will) -- but what will happen with prices, what comes after Blu-ray and will any of it replace DVD (or simply coexist.

It has been assumed that Blu-ray manufacturers have been losing a bundle on promoting Blu-ray. Will they raise prices on hardware? Drop incentive programs like free disks with new players? Raise prices on disks?

As consumers we have a lot to thank the HD DVD camp for in terms of low costs ... but without competition recouping losses may be a temptation.

Also where to from here. Have you noted that Sony HDTVs are building in xvYCC colour space and 10 bit colour support ... while initially it will probably be video games that utilize this extra capability a replacement for Blu-ray (or extension of the standard) isn't far away (8 bit colour and BT709 colour space are standard for Blu-ray). This may be a "simple" extension of Blu-ray technology, but you can be sure Sony have plans to take advantage of the capability they are building into their hardware (assuming content is produced to support it).

Finally, only 38% of US households are predicted to have HDTVs by the end of 2008. And only a fraction of these will allow the benefits fo Blu-ray to be realized (most are 720p models well under 40", and many don't have HDMI connectivity). A majority of even those with HDTVs are expected to resist the premium prices for HD disks. so the likelihood of Blu-ray disks replacing DVD before HD download and VOD services are a viable mainstream alternative to HD disks, or video holographic disks (or other technology) arrives, appears unlikely. In other words Blu-ray is likley to remain a niche format with DVD as the primary disk media for a long time to come.
You got it........So has blu ray basically won the format war?
not yet, this is a step forward

This can end up like beta maxSo has blu ray basically won the format war?
not yet... if microsoft dumps hd dvd, THEN it will be over..
I don't think so, Blu-Ray is a Sony only format. I think as time goes by you will see the HD-DVD player become increasingly popular as no one will have exclusive rights to it. Think back Beta was a Sony only format, and you saw what happened there.
No not even chance dvd is still big also the price drop on ps3 has help the blu-ray case.
    blu-ray has won , hd-dvd just don't know it yet !

soon universla pictures and paramount picutres will join the blu-train

P.S : The future is Blu
I don't think anyone is a clear winner yet. That depends on which format the porn industry chooses.

That's what won the war for VHS.
Yeah pretty much....New Line Cinemas is partners with Warner so it won't be long until they go Blu-Ray only as well as confirmed by this article

Some stores have ridiculously liberal return policies (e.g. Sears), but even they are cutting back.

Is it worth getting a Blu-Ray player if my TV only supports 1080i?

My plasma only supports only 1080i, not 1080p. Is it worth getting a Blu-Ray player? Would there be a noticeable difference? Is it worth getting a Blu-Ray player if my TV only supports 1080i?
Blue Ray is the only format recorded for HD audio and video resolution. You TV supports 1080i however the Blue Ray player is where the rubber meets the road for audio %26amp; video quality. HD blue ray disks are recorded in 1080p format and the blue ray player decodes and transmits to your 1080i TV. I can assure you that your eye can not tell the diff between 1080i and 1080p resolutions. Have fun.
Yes. If your plasma is only 1080i, the blu-ray player will downscale the 1080p to 1080i. Even at 1080i it will be a HUGE improvement over DVD. IT will still look great and I would still suggest you get it.Is it worth getting a Blu-Ray player if my TV only supports 1080i?
Absolutely...there is no other HD DVD player out there, that will deliver 1080 HD to your 1080 TV set.....

Notice I didn't mention 1080P or 1080i....because when it comes down to it, 1080 is 1080, no matter what others will tell you.....

Sure 1080P gives you something that 1080i can't...Progressive scanned picture.

If the Blu Ray's Drive architecture is SATA and the connecting Power jack also SATA then theoretically it's possible but either of those connections is incompatible then-- No.

Keep in mind the the amount of power required for a "stand alone" player might be a different voltage. So either you won't have enough juice to run the device or it might cause a power surge and kill your motherboard.

It may also be possible to connect via USB if adapters are available for that purpose. Research it before making any physical attempts. I applaud you for thinking outside of the box.

Is the Sin City Blu Ray movie noticeablely different from the reg. dvd seeing as how its just animated?

This is ONLY for people who have actually seen it in Blu Ray.

The Sin City Blu Ray Edition was only released in Canada

and im thinking of purchasing it only if there is

a big improvement on the looks.

The regular Sin City dvd already looks astonishing,

would the blu ray version have a noticeable difference?

again, please answer only if you've seen both.

Is the Sin City Blu Ray movie noticeablely different from the reg. dvd seeing as how its just animated?
    your kidding right?

if your argument is that something won't look better animated then maybe everyone is blind to think Wall-E, corpse bride, sleeping beauty and ratatouille are constantly blu ray test material discs.

The only version that might not be better in blu ray is the grindhouse flicks since they wanted it to look gritty. making something very sharp when it was intended to be gritty kinda throws off the point of the visual of that film (planet terror)

I know that Planet Earth on blu ray was in 1080i, but I was hoping that this new series would be in full 1080p.

Thanks! Is the blu ray life on discovery going to be in full 1080p?
Yes, 1080p. I have included a link to the release announcement. At the end it does specify that it will be 1080P.

What is the difference between Blu ray features and standard dvd features on this movie.?

I want to buy hottub time machine today but want to know if i should spend the money for the blu ray disc i know that the picture is better but is there any better or more features that i should no of.What is the difference between Blu ray features and standard dvd features on this movie.?
I'm just curious as to why you would buy that on Blu-ray? I'm not trying to be a troll or anything but if the movie doesn't have any action sequences the quality of it doesn't really matter to me. I bought the Dark Knight on Blu-ray, Saving Private Ryan, Mr. %26amp; Mrs Smith and a couple other ones. I'm just wondering.

But no to answer your questions, there are not many differences.
Not much of a difference. Full specs can be found on amazon.com.What is the difference between Blu ray features and standard dvd features on this movie.?
We have a Blue-Ray DVD Player AND a regular DVD player.

We also have many Blue-Ray movies. I really wouldn't invest the money to buy a Blue-Ray. The difference in picture is so slim but there is a slight difference. There are SOME extra features like games and stuff for each movie, but it is not worth the time and effort to me. Unless you have money that you just NEED to spend, I wouldn't suggest buying this. You will enjoy the movie just as much without the Blue-Ray.What is the difference between Blu ray features and standard dvd features on this movie.?
high definition dvd movies can only reach 720p while blu ray movies are 1280p. That means blu ray movies bring much better image quality.

How would you rate Playstation 3 as a blu-ray player?

I am considering asking for one for my birthday and already have a XBox 360. The main reason i would ask for a PS3 is because of its blu-ray capabilities. My friend told me that it is not a very good blu-ray player, so I am just curious. How would you rate Playstation 3 as a blu-ray player?
    It'll hit 9 of 10 if you have a Blu-ray remote.
its great. i remember reading somewhere a few monts back that the ps3s blu ray player was actually tested higher than some stand alone blu ray players. its a great systemHow would you rate Playstation 3 as a blu-ray player?
he is right its not compared to the real ones but the PS#'s graphics are assomHow would you rate Playstation 3 as a blu-ray player?
I would rate the PS3 as a Blu-Ray player 9 out of 10. The stand alone Blu-Ray players that just play Blu-Ray DVD's are a little bit better, but the PS3 is just as good as the other Blu-Ray DVD players. I mean, who in the world would want to pay $1000 dollars for just a stand alone Blu-Ray player when the PS3 is a Blu-Ray player, a home entertainment center, and a gaming machine all in one for less than half the price.

The PS3 is an excellent Blu-Ray DVD player

Really, I don't think that you are getting a PS3 mainly for it's

Blu-Ray capabilities, you're buying it to play games too, just admit it. You know you want to play Metal Gear Solid 4, Killzone 2, and God of War 3, it's alright, everyone wants to play those games!
It can play the Blu-Ray movie.

    I think that's good enough %26gt;,%26lt;
well considering other blue-ray disk players cost 3000+ i would say the ps3 is well worth it's price as a blue-ray disk player

Blu-ray what do you actually require to have the full blu-ray experience ?

I have an H.D ready L.C.D -T.V and an ordinary d.v.d recorder obviously I am looking to buy a blu-ray d.v.d player to show blu-ray films, but do I also require a blu-ray T.V as well ? Basically what do I need to get full on effect of blu-ray, the best system and also the only just requirement to show blu-ray.Blu-ray what do you actually require to have the full blu-ray experience ?
Your TV will work and you can hook up a bluray player to it. But to get the Full 1080P that Blu Ray offers you will need the following

    1. 1080P HDTV (FULL HD- that is the advertisement word for 1080P TV's)

    2. Blu Ray Player and Blu Ray dvd movies

    3. HDMI Cable (this will give you the full 1080P picture

That is just for the video, there is more for the sound and what level of sound you prefer. Enjoy
This is what I woult want for the best blu-Ray experiance...

40"+ HDTV 1080p with 120hz (Sony Bravia XBR series, and Samsung LNt are both great)

Blu-Ray player either the Panasonic DMP-BD30, Sony BDP-S300, or maybe even a PS3

    Onkyo 705 reciever

Harman Kardon HKTS-18 5.1 Channel Speaker System

And have to use HDMI cables.

Of course that is quit expensive, you could probably easily do without the reciever and speakers. But the 120hz HDTV is a must to get the best picture quality.Blu-ray what do you actually require to have the full blu-ray experience ?
    1080p HDTV

HDMI cableBlu-ray what do you actually require to have the full blu-ray experience ?
You need a HD TV with 1080 lines of resolution (that's what the 1080i or 1080p stands for). 1080p is better.

You need a Blu-Ray player and would want to use an HDMI cable to connect the player and TV.
You need a blueray player and disc lol

A full HD tv (1080p) Big screen 40inch + and a damn good surround sound system, at least 5 speakers and 200watts sound with minimum 100watts bass... spaced out round room not together along one wall....
Since you already have an HD capable tv, the only thing you need is the Blu-ray player (and the movies of course).

There are many choices out there. Generally the best, right now anyway, is the Playstation 3.
    no just a HD TV

best you get a blu ray player, that will have DVI or HDMI and your Telly should also have the same connection. so you may need a lead.
All you need is an HD tv and for the full experience it would help to have 1080p not 1080i although it doesn't make a huge difference. The requirement is an HD tv
You need lots of money. I understand the discs are rather pricey.
no blu-ray TV just the hd one. buy a PS3 its the most future proof blu-ray player on the market at a reasonable price (鈧?00 here) and as a bonus it also plays games :D and mp3 and div x.
You need an HDTV and at least a 5.1 Dolby digital decoder/amplifier with the appropriate number of speakers to get the full experience from a blu-ray player. At a minimum, you need an HDTV because you can't use it on a regular tv.

You should get the PS3 - You get a sweet game system for only an extra $100.00 more than an inexpensive blu-ray player.
blu-ray players are generally high priced so for more bang for your buck I suggest you get a PS3 it supports 1080p resolution using HDMI cables (one cable for premium sound and video). Monster Cables are the best brand out there right now. Amazon has a great selection and better prices. I also suggest you get a TERK brand HDMI auto selector. It is well worth the puchase! It has 3 HDMI ports so you can add more components like a directv reciever, cable box, tivo, or apple tv. When you turn them on it automacically activates that source on your tv. Which means you don't have to change sources with your remote. Just turn on what you want to use. For example; port 1 cable box, port 2 PS3, port 3 apple tv. youre watching tv an want to watch a blu-ray movie. You simply turn on your PS3 and just like that its on screen and ready to go! I love it. To sum it up you need HDMI cables PS3 or just a blu-ray player and the auto selector is just a luxury. youre all set!
No, you just need a hdtv, which yours might be but im not sure. Hd ready tv sometimes means it accepts Hd signal but not outputs it. If your tv does output Hd, then you all you need is HDMI cables. In order to see the full potential of bluray, you need a tv that outputs at 1080p and have HDMI cables.

Deciding between a ps3(just for the blu ray) or an exclusive blu ray player?

I really do not want the ps3 for ANY type of gaming but i notice the pricetag is similar to other blu ray players and sometimes even cheaper. Are there any differences in picture/video quality between the ps3 and a sony/sharp/panny blu ray player?? Can someone enlighten me please.Deciding between a ps3(just for the blu ray) or an exclusive blu ray player?
Get a dedicated blu-ray player, even if it costs a few more $$.

The PS3 does many things ok but not a single thing great.
Get the PS3. There is NO difference in picture quality. The PS3 lacks the ability to decode one type of audio (I forget which). Other than that its a fantastic Blu-ray player that gets updated regularly. You can also download free 1080p movie trailers from Sony's online store. Just think that you're getting the game system for free!Deciding between a ps3(just for the blu ray) or an exclusive blu ray player?
i would go with the ps3, it does so much more, even if you are not a gamer. you can chat, store pics, videos, go on line..Deciding between a ps3(just for the blu ray) or an exclusive blu ray player?
    go for ps3..
Coming from someone that has a PS3, I would buy the player, even if you don't plan on playing games right now, the PS3 does everything and more that a Blu-Ray player does, is less expensive, and STILL plays games! It's the better deal.

To get the best quality out of BluRay, you need to:

    1. Use a flat screen TV (LCD or Plasma, preferably plasma) capable of TRUE 1080p. 1920x1080 is the native resolution for 1080p. There are some that claim to be capable of "recognizing" 1080p signals, but have a lower native resolution than that. You see this on some smaller sets. Those use sampling to resize the image to the screen's native resolution.

    2. Disable upsample filtering (This is for stretching and blurring images that AREN'T at native resolution). On some TVs, the built-in upsampling filter will improve the output from lower sources, but it, and other filtering options also blur 1080p signals too. Some people prefer this, as it reduces pixelation at bigger screen sizes. Others hate it, because it does reduce sharpness.

    3. Use an HDMI cable for the connection. While some BluRay players, and screens are capable of connecting through other cables, a digital connection is better. Where multiple digital connection types are offered, HDMI is the preferred connector.

If you really want to see the effect:

Use a source that was "filmed" using an HD digital video camera. HD Digital video cameras tend to have a different depth of field than traditional film or even analog video cameras. The result is said to look "flat" and if you didn't know what to look for, you'd say it looks weird and artificial, without being able to point out why. There is filtering software that can be applied in post production to restore the depth of field effect, but the results don't always work. You'll see this on a lot of recent TV shows and B movies. How do i get my PS3 to play blu ray in really high quality?
buy a full HD 1080P sony braiva 40" "Z" series

Is star wars prequel trilogy ever coming to blu ray?

I want it on blu ray I won't buy it until that happens . I only want the star wars with anakin not the old one.Is star wars prequel trilogy ever coming to blu ray?
The only SW movie that is out on Blu-Ray is the Animated Clone Wars movie ... I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for the others to come out on that format. Lucas and many others in "Hollywood" are not sold on Blu-Ray becoming the next big thing ... there are also many who think it is a dead format. Personally I would go with the "dead" idea but I'm not "full in" on that yet. Don't get me wrong, Blu-Ray does have much better picture quality and sound but not enough to justify the added cost of the player and new home theater equipment. There are tons of other "pros" %26amp; "cons" for this but going into that rant wouldn't serve any purpose in regards to your question.

I wouldn't look for SW to be on Blu-Ray, if ever, until after Lucas has brought all 6 movies back to theaters in a true 3-D format. Most "rumors" point to this happening in 2012 but again ... I wouldn't hold my breath.

May The Force Be With You ...

When the industry changes to all digital broadcasting, will they be broadcasting in a blu-ray fomat?

I am paying $10 more each month to have my satellite provider provide me with high definition channels. My question is; Next February when they switch over to all digital signals, will they be broadcasting in blu-ray quality? If I purchase a blu-ray recorder will I be able to record blu-ray quality movies? When the industry changes to all digital broadcasting, will they be broadcasting in a blu-ray fomat?
No one can say for certain if regular programming will be in 1080p Blu-ray quality when everything switches to digital. The only difference will be that the signals sent will be digital as opposed to analog. And if they do decide to transmit 1080p quality, it might be limited to certain programming and stations.

The best rez for Cox, Comcast %26amp; DirectTV is 1080i.

Right now, the only provider that is supposedly offering 1080p movies is DishNet through their VOD package, called TurboHD. As far as regular programming, I can't say for sure if they will offer it in true HD or upconvert the signal to 1080p, when the transition happens.

But with the advent of Verizon's FiOS network, I imagine that it will become more prevelant in the near future.

And once analog "dies" This should free up more bandwidth to allow for more HD programming and possibly 1080p content for cable providers.

With blu-ray recorder, as long as the source you are recording from isn't copy-protected, you will be able to record HD content.
No ..........digital vs. anolog. The industry conversion has nothing to do with high definition ( different subject ). Although bitstreams will vary, High Def is 720p to 1080p resolution ( line per million ). Digital is nothing more than the frequency and lines of frequency signals are used to transfer bit data through space to your dish or your cable box ( which is signal transfered from a sattelite. HD is the amount of resolution recorded on a disk or transfered via satellite to your TV. TV's are those where 720p or higher can be decode either from HD disks or HD programming. Remember, most cable companies and DirecTV and Dish already have HD packages you can subscribe to. Digital from analog conversion next year is a separate subject. And yes - a blue ray recorder will be able to record in either 1080i upconversions or 720-1080p full HD. It all depends on the signal being transfered to your cable box or dish box. When the industry changes to all digital broadcasting, will they be broadcasting in a blu-ray fomat?
    (sigh)

The digital switch over is only for the standard def antenna signals. It has NOTHING to do with high def.

Right now you can put up an antenna and probably pick up some ABC, CBS, NBC stations in High Def that fully support the 720/1080 standards that BluRay also supports.

You dont have to wait for February.

Plug an antenna like the Phillips Silver Sensor into your Dish Receiver Antenna input (not the Sat dish input). Position the antenna somewhere with line of sight to the broadcast towers and tell the Sat receiver to scan for channels.

You can also plug the antenna directly into your TV and do the same thing as long as you do not have a "HD Ready" television which does not have a tuner.

When the industry changes to all digital broadcasting, will they be broadcasting in a blu-ray fomat?
The blu-ray format has to do with the method of storage on a CD sized disc.

The digital broadcasting has to do with the transmission type of the signal over the air (digital versus analog).

If you local stations are already broadcasting in digital, and you have a TV with a digital tuner, just plug in some rabbit ears. The quality is HD it's not going to be as consistently good as a blu-ray disc.
HD, especially from a satellite is usually much lower quality than Blu-Ray. The satellite is already a digital signal and the change will have NO effect on you. Blu-Ray is a 1080P picture which your TV likely cannot even display. (Your satellite is running at 720P HD) FYI - Most people get HD for free so I don't know why you are playing extra unless you pay for something special.

How do you do software updates on a Blu-Ray player?

Im looking to buy a Blu-Ray player and some of the reviews complain about software updates. How hard is that to do? Is it worth the extra $50-$100 to get one that is already updated? How do you do software updates on a Blu-Ray player?
Manufacturers often create firmware updates to fix bugs or add new features, so even if you buy a player with the current firmware, it could be out of date in a few weeks and need a firmware update.

If the player is connected to the internet, then it will tell you when a new firmware update is available and ask you if you want to install it. If you tell it to install the firmware update, it does it automatically - just be sure not to use the player or press any buttons while the update is taking place - in other words, leave it completely alone or it could crash. If it's not connected to the internet, then the manufacturer will have instructions in the manual about how to get the updates - typically you download them to your computer from the manufacturers website, then save the update on a flash drive, then insert the flash drive into the blu-ray player and let it do the update.
why not get a PS3? it has built in WiFi for updates with out a cord and is 3d ready for the 3d TV's that will come out in a year or so.How do you do software updates on a Blu-Ray player?
Endeavor is right, unless you're talking about some of the older players that don't have any flash drive ports. In this case, you'll still have to download the firmware update and then burn the image onto a blank cd as an ISO image then put the cd into the player. The player will take care of the rest. I know, I had to the same with mine. How do you do software updates on a Blu-Ray player?
It'll take about 5 to 10 minutes to update the firmware on your blue-ray disc player. There is no blu-ray disc player that has all the software updated already done, as each new release of blu-ray disc has different requirements. You can not see the future today.

What's the difference between Pirates of the Caribbean 2-disc collector's edition and the blu-ray version?

I know that blu-ray is better quality. I'm just wondering in terms of special features, which version has more? Or are there certain features that pertain only to the blu-ray or only to the 2-disc collector's edition? What's the difference between Pirates of the Caribbean 2-disc collector's edition and the blu-ray version?
I don't have the 2 DISC VERSION but all the features on the 2 disc version are on the Blu ray as well. The blu ray has the following exclusive extras: Dolby HD Digital, the main feature is in 1080p as opposed to 480i, There is an exclusive Blu Ray game "Liar's Dice" that is in HD so its a BR exclusive, Movie Showcase ( on most Disney BR) allows you to access certain scenes and experience the HD difference there are also seamless menus,

Does that help. What's the difference between Pirates of the Caribbean 2-disc collector's edition and the blu-ray version?
The DVD and Blu-ray have very similar features. The Blu-ray will be more expensive and on a 1080p display will look amazing. The Blu-ray only plays in Blu-ray player, though.

The 2-Disc Special Edition DVD will play in a DVD or Blu-ray player, but it does look as spectacular as the Blu-ray Disc in either machine. It is likely available for half the price of the Blu-ray though... and even cheaper used in great condition.

Best Blu-ray players that can play all bonus content on the disc?

I've heard and read on my recent xmas present - Sleeping Beauty Blu-ray and DVD combo that some players can't play all the extras on the disc, so which has all the latest stuff to do this(like profile 2 or something) and under 拢300?

Basically, which is the definitive best that will last me for some years, with great pic quality, decodes HD audio and is straightforward to use?Best Blu-ray players that can play all bonus content on the disc?
You just need to make sure whatever player you choose has profile 2.0. I'm in the US, so I don't know if this will help, but the highest rated Blu-ray player I've seen is the Panasonic DMP-BD35, although the entry level Sony model is a fine choice too.
Blu-ray players have 2 types of content Java based and internet based - only players with Internet access can play internet options such as the PS3 and newer Sony models but most can be updated with software from the makers (burn to CD then update via the CD) to bring the latest Java features... INTERNET enabled ones can update automatically!Best Blu-ray players that can play all bonus content on the disc?
I would have to say the Playstation 3 is your best buy for a Blu-ray right now. PS3 also backs BD-R and BD-RW (writable and re-writable disks)Best Blu-ray players that can play all bonus content on the disc?
PS3 that is a Blu-ray player and more for around 拢300. Probably 1 of the cheapest and it can play all the bonus features.
    PS3

    Hi John w;

The N standard is the newest and is backwards compatable with the other standards. The N standard will give you the fastest transfer rate, so it is in your best interest to get a N router.

What is the best Blu-ray player software to use?

I have a built in Blu-ray player that came with my HP, with Vista. Now I have Windows 7 and today was the first day I have gone to use the Blu-ray player in a bit. I went to watch the new version of Fight Club and it has turned into a no go. What do I do? I've heard I would need software to play it and a bunch of other junk. What's the truth? What is the best Blu-ray player software to use?
Software should have been included with the drive, or if it was pre-installed, with your computer. It is probably your best solution. Check the manufacturer website. It may have a download. You shouldn't have to buy anything.

How to get best picture with my blu-ray?

I have a samsung series 5 1080p tv. I just got a sony s350 blu-ray for christmas. Does my tv automatically put out 1080p or will i need to get a hd box to get a better picture with my blu-ray player. Also what are some tips to get the best possible picture, because it doesn't look as good as in the storesHow to get best picture with my blu-ray?
Go into the BluRay setup menu and tell it to output 1080p.

Then get a copy of the BluRay version of "Digital Video Essentials" for about $18 on Amazon. Go through the tutorials on setting the contrast, brightness, color to turn the TV down from "torch mode".

You can also use "Cars" or "Wall-E" which have setup test patterns that instruct you how to set the basic adjustments.

Note: Displays in the store are turned up to 100% brightness and contrast to be eye-catching. This is NOT the best image quality - but it does get attention. Use the tutorials to tone things down and you will get a much better picture than the store. Not as bright, but better. How to get best picture with my blu-ray?
You would probably have to configure certain things on the blu-ray player first because just like the Playstation 3 it does not output 1080p automatically; and to get better quality picture; you can go and talk to somebody in Future Shop or Best Buy; they can probably help you out a lot more seeing as they're experts. How to get best picture with my blu-ray?
I am sorry that you had to endure Stan L's response...

Yes...you need to run the menu setup feature on the TV to determine if you have it ready for 1080p signal.

Also you need to make sure that you are using the HDMI cable since it carries HD signals will regular coaxial (red, white, yellow) cables don't.

Also check the input on the TV and make sure that you have the Blu-Ray plugged in to the right source input.

Whats better For Blu Ray Playstation 3 or Just Normal Blu Ray Player ?

Im not really after the playstation 3 for games but for the Blu Ray Player . Should i get Playstation 3 or Just normal Blu ray player ?

Anyone know whats better option ?Whats better For Blu Ray Playstation 3 or Just Normal Blu Ray Player ?
    A Blu-ray player is a Blu-ray player...

With the $400 PS3 coming out there is no cheaper Blu-ray in the world.

You'll also have the option for playing a game or 2 and surf the net with the PS3.
The PS3 is the best Blu-ray player available right now. Only for the fact that it is the easiest to get firmware updates for. There are some Blu-ray discs available that have features that you can only play on the PS3. It is very easy to use, and set up. Plus you can get a "normal" remote for it if you don't like using a controller.Whats better For Blu Ray Playstation 3 or Just Normal Blu Ray Player ?
I'd go with the ps3 because like the earlier guys said it's no more expensive and can upconvert your picture also the ps3 is already coming out with cool new attatchments i.e. they are going to release a DVR for it and plan more cool stuff.

Plus it's SONY and they are one of the best brands there isWhats better For Blu Ray Playstation 3 or Just Normal Blu Ray Player ?
    PlayStation 3 for several reasons.

If you like to play games than the PS3 does and you can surf the net through a Sony-developed internet browser. The browser is very fast to. The PS3 also has built in Wi-Fi. Many reviewers say that the PS3 is one of the best Hi-Def players on the market including all HD DVD players and Blu-Ray players. It also supports normal 1080p and the latest 1.3 HDMI. It also has ports for ethernet and optical audio.

This is important because an ethernet is not on many Blu-Ray players, and in the future a ethernet connection will be needed to play the interactive features. But the PS3 will be able to when Profile 2.0 becomes mandatory. Also, the current Blu-Ray players do not support Profile 1.1, which the PS3 may soon be able to support thorugh a firmware upgrade.
if your not into games get the regular blue ray player. but i would suggest getting the ps3, who knows? you may just get into this gaming thing, and there are a lot of good games out there. so give the ps3 a try
The PS3 works great as a Blu-Ray player and it will also upconvert 480p DVDs to 720p or 1080p now. It also functions as a media center and there is more media functionality coming with future firmware updates, according to Sony's press releases.
The reviews in magazines and on-line seem to say that the PS3 is one of the better BD machines and stand-alone players are often compared to the PS3 in terms of quality.

I like the idea of the PS3 because there is a lot of horsepower in that box (which is why it is a superior BluRay player), and you get a DVD %26amp; Game system in 1 box.

With respect to Joseph - Sony is one of the arguments against the PS3. Remember they were behind the "root-kit" virus that infect your PC if you put an audio CD into your computer.

To watch your blue ray movie on your blu ray player do you go to hdmi 1, 2 or 3?

Also, what type of blu ray do you have?To watch your blue ray movie on your blu ray player do you go to hdmi 1, 2 or 3?
It doesn't matter which input you plug your Blu-ray player into. They should all work equally well.

I have a PS3. I plug it into my recevier's (Onkyo TX-SR606) HDMI 2. I plug my HD cable box into HDMI 1. I send them both on to my TV via the HDMI out port.
All depends on what input you have your HDMI cable plugged into on your TV. Look where you plugged the cable in on your TV and you should see a label stated 1, 2, or 3. You can also turn on your BluRay player and cycle thru the inputs and see which one it is on. It won't change next time.

Each person may have it setup in a different input so just because mine is on #2 doesn't mean yours will be.To watch your blue ray movie on your blu ray player do you go to hdmi 1, 2 or 3?
Just look to see what input the Blu-Ray player is on. I would suggest using an input in the back than on the side. I have had problems with HDMI cables falling out of my side input on my Samsung.

As far as players I have a Samsung BD UP 5000 so that it plays Blu-Rays and HD DVD's. HD-DVDs are so cheap right now you can save a ton of money. You can buy new discs for less than $5, often cheaper than the DVD version. I also have a PS3 that I will use to play discs if I don't want to lose my place on a disc in the other player. To watch your blue ray movie on your blu ray player do you go to hdmi 1, 2 or 3?
once you figure it out on most TVs you can go into menu and rename the input TV for input one DVD for input 2 and so on
