You can call or email the manufacturer on how to update the firmware of your player. Phillips is a bargain price blu ray disc player and thus it is not as reliable as those made by Panasonic, Samsung and Sony. I own a first generation blu ray disc player from Panasonic and have played over 300 blu ray disc movies and have had no problems. It is also 4 years old. Panasonic has had a blu ray disc player recommended every year by Home Theater Magazine. Go online to Home Theater Magazine and read the reviews on players. Keep in mind, you get what you pay for.
