I have a 1080i screen with a computer connected through the RGB input. I'm thinking about adding a blu-ray drive to the computer rather than buying a new stand-alone player. Will the video quality be comparable between the drive and stand-alone? I understand that high end players have better processors, so not counting the subtle differences those provide, is there any major picture loss using a drive or RGB?Is a blu-ray drive in a computer with an RGB connection equal in quality to a stand-alone played with HDMI?
HDMI is better choice to go since it is digital. But make suer you have a good procesor and a good graphics card to to get the full potential
The drive itself is probably similar to those found in stand alone players, but you said it yourself that the processor is what is better. I have to say however, that with high end processing, the difference is not at all subtle, but very noticeable. Lets not forget that you will get very satisfactory picture going your method, and you can improve things drastically by upgrading your video card while you are at it.Is a blu-ray drive in a computer with an RGB connection equal in quality to a stand-alone played with HDMI?
If you've ever hooked up a DVI connection for a monitor vs. a VGA cable and seen a difference in the sharpness, so too is the difference in HDMI over VGA.
VGA is analog, HDMI and DVI are digital. Digital in the majority of cases will yield a sharper and more well refined picture. Is a blu-ray drive in a computer with an RGB connection equal in quality to a stand-alone played with HDMI?
no HDMI would give you a significant increase in performance. plus HDMI has audio and video in one cable
