It definitely recognizes the disk but I'm not sure how to get it to play it. I'm sure that it can play blu-ray disks. How do I play blu-ray disks on an acer ASPIRE 6930G laptop?
For Acers with Blu-Ray drives: you should have Cyberlink PowerDVD BR edition installed for Blu-Ray movie playback. This should work out of the box with no additional configuration or installation from you as PowerDVD BR edition is one of many programs Acer preinstalls on Blu-Ray equipted PCs. So you should just have to pop in a Blu-Ray disc and PowerDVD BR edition will launch and play the movie...
Since you're posting this question I assume that's not happening for you, so the question is why? Two most likely possibilities:
A. Acer failed to preinstall the PowerDVD BR edition software (have a look through the disc that came with the Notebook, give Acer a call)
B. You were sold 6930G configuration that does not have a Blu-Ray drive. Acer actually manufacters 14 different configurations of the 6930G and the majority of those DO NOT have the internal Blu-Ray player. it's possible someone sold you a configuration that does not have a Blu-Ray drive in which case you should return/exchange the notebook. If it's Blu-Ray capable you will see the Blu-Ray logo somewhere on the outside of the drive door or on the Notebook case. How do I play blu-ray disks on an acer ASPIRE 6930G laptop?
The simplest thing to do is look at the face of your disk drive, if it has the Blu- Ray logo then it is a Blu- Ray player.

How come more of Blu Ray movies are grainy when compared to Hd Dvd?
I use both formats and have realised that blu ray movies have more 'grain'.
None of the Hd Dvd movies I have suffer from this. How come more of Blu Ray movies are grainy when compared to Hd Dvd?
I think it's just coincidence in the specific movies you have viewed.
Both HD DVD and Blu-ray are capable of producing at least as much detail as the film print normally seen in theaters (although maybe slightly less than the master print).
Many HD movies don't look as clear as we may wish ... usually because they are intentionally grainy, have a distinct hue, or otherwise reflect the Director's intent, or because the studio didn't do a great jog of mastering the digital copy. In addition, some early Blu-ray movies were produced using inferior video formats (e.g. Mpeg 2) that could be interpreted as grainy looking.
While specific poor releases do exist in both formats, experts agree that overall, there is essentially no video quality difference between Blu-ray and HD DVD.
Grain is not a function of sharpness. When you see grain in a movie (assuming it is a well produced movie) it is almost always on purpose. Movies like 300, Black Hawk Down and others that try to convey a grittiness use a grainy filmstock to help convey the right feel, just like music is used to convey an emotion. Other movies use a superfine grain to convey a slick feel, like UltraViolet.
Film is way sharper than even 1080P so you could never see the grain unless they want you to, unless it is very poorly produced. How come more of Blu Ray movies are grainy when compared to Hd Dvd?

Ahem... HD is no more, so... this is like asking why 8-tracks sounded better than cassette. ITS TRAVESTY!

If it's covered in beans, it's from Mexico. If it breaks easily, it's from china.

Can blu-ray players get a firmware update for 3d playback?
I just found out that the ps3 will be getting a firmware update to allow 3D playback, why not all blu-ray players? Can blu-ray players get a firmware update for 3d playback?
A player has to be able to support the new dual frame video output, and also have an HDMI 1.4 hardware port in order to be able to be firmware upgradeable to support 3D output. Because of the processing capabilities of the PS3, it will be able to work around the HDMI 1.4 port issue (earlier PS3 models had 1.3 ports), possibly at a reduced resolution though Sony claims the output will be 1080p not 1080i.

Will blu ray players work on 1080i tvs and will it look good?
i have a 50 inch 1080i tv,will blu ray players work on it and look good? Will blu ray players work on 1080i tvs and will it look good?
Yes they will work, and they don't look bad. I have a FullHD projector with a 100 inch screen, and I can't really tell the difference between 1080i and 1080p.
Yes -- it will work, because HDMI cables support 480p, 720p, 1080i and also 1080p -- but it would be optimal if your TV was in 1080p.Will blu ray players work on 1080i tvs and will it look good?
Yes it will work. In fact, Blu Rays are meant to be viewed in 1080. Whether it be 1080i or 1080p, it is still high definition.
Will it look good? Sure it will. It is true that there is a slight difference between 1080p (progressive scan) and 1080i (interlace), but generally it isn't noticeable unless the distance you are sitting from your TV is more than 3 times your screen size.
Since you have a 50" screen, you would have to sit more than 150" (12' 6") from your TV to notice much of a difference. Will blu ray players work on 1080i tvs and will it look good?
They work well on this condition. Do not worry.blackheads

I recently purchased a blu-ray burner for my PC and am wondering what is the best software for burning movies to a blu-ray disc? Thanks! What is the best software for burning blu-ray discs?
I'd like to recommend this DVD Creator to you. It can convert any videos to High-definition (HD) Blu-ray movies and burn into DVD or Blu-ray Disc. Almost all kinds of videos are supported by HD Movie Maker including WMV, MKV, AVI, DivX, XviD, MPEG, MP4, QuickTime Movie, Real Video, H.264/AVC, M2TS, etc, which can be coded to the high definition videos and be viewed on Blu-ray players (including Sony PlayStation 3).

How do i play blu ray rips on my xbox 360 via an external HD?
i have a ton of blu ray rips on my external hard drive (1 TB, FAT 32) and want to plug it in and stream it right from the external onto my TV via the 360. it will play all my standard def. vids but not the blu rays. im using a mac for my computer and have the files in a mix of mp4 and wmv files. help? How do i play blu ray rips on my xbox 360 via an external HD?
FAT32 has a 4GB file size limit. Ordinarily this would be a bad thing, but since the XBOX 360 won't play any video files larger than 4GB (except WMV, naturally), it's not a problem at all.
As long as the File Size is under 4GB, the XBOX will play it, provided it was ripped to H.264 specs. If it's not playing a file, check its file size and its video stream info on your Mac using Quicktime. You may need to re-encode the files.
Also note: Mac OS 10.6 Snow Leopard uses a different system of calculating "gigabytes" from the rest of the world. An Apple gigabyte is a little smaller than regular gigabyte.clear cream

Ditto on The Dark Knight...
I have also found that realistic-looking computer animated movies look really awesome on blu-ray! An example would be Walle
I think that the picture and clarity on the movie 300 is absolutely amazing! That is the movie which I noticed the biggest visual difference. I highly recommend it (if you do not mind blood or violence in a movie). The Lord of the Rings movies will be released soon though, on Bluray which should trump them all! What is the best Blu-Ray movie currently avalible?

What is the best blu ray player out in the market today? and how much?
I do have a budget. can i find a good blu ray player for $300 and below??? What is a good brand? and does it have to come with the entertainment system for it to sound good? i think i can only afford to buy the player itself. Thank you! What is the best blu ray player out in the market today? and how much?
hello,
The best player is the Samsung bd-p3600 or 4600 simply because they stream netflix wirelessly from your router. You can find the 3600 in your price range. Load up your netflix cue, a big nasty bowl...of popcorn of course!, and don't sleep for days.
cheers, ps

If you don't have an HDTV forget Blu-ray.
If you have a good surround audio system (with HDMI input) and larger than 32" HDTV Blu-ray (bigger is better) is a good idea ... as long as you are prepared to pay a premium for disks.
OK ... so you still want one.
The "best" (in the "normal human" price range) is arguably the Oppo BDP-83 (see link), but it's $500. That said, there are a number of stand alone players under $300. However, I'd recommend avoiding the bargain basement models (under $200).
Blu-ray players can be added to any audio system that a DVD player can be used with ... but work best with an HDMI connection.
Other than Oppo, Sony, Samsung, Panasonic, LG and Pioneer make the brand name models. I suggest reading reviews (See 2nd link for a start). Every player has pros and cons, so since no-one but you knows your needs you decide.
Note if you have a big DVD collection (and MANY movies are not available on Blu-ray) look for one that upscales DVD well. Not all do. For example, the Sony PS3 is a mediocre DVD player. What is the best blu ray player out in the market today? and how much?
For your budget I would suggest Sony BDP-S360 1080p Blu-ray Disc Player

Is there anyway to register a PS3 Blu-ray remote-control without a game controller?
I recently bought a blu-ray remote for the PS3 after my game controller broke (I only used it for blu-ray and DVDs anyway) but I found out that you need to register the remote. Is there anyway to do this through a PC or something, because I don't have a game controller to register it.Is there anyway to register a PS3 Blu-ray remote-control without a game controller?
You could use a usb keyboard and use its direction buttons to do the work. Yes you can also use a mouse which you can move around. I know this because I have tried with my keyboard and mouse so in other words you don't need the controller to register a BT remote.
PS: Now if you format/factory your ps3 you must have the controller so don't do that unless you really want to get a new controller, which isn't that expensive now.Is there anyway to register a PS3 Blu-ray remote-control without a game controller?

If I connect my cable through a Blu Ray player, will the picture be better?
I currently have standard definition basic cable from Shaw. If I connect the cable to the blu ray player, then from the blu ray to my LCD tv, will the picture quality be better?
Just curious.
Thanks. If I connect my cable through a Blu Ray player, will the picture be better?
Short answer: No.
The reason Blu-Ray players yield such good video quality is because Blu-Ray discs are written with a large amount of data devoted to the image. The Blu-Ray player reads this data, and projects it on the screen as a high-quality image. If you run your cable through the player, nothing will happen to it, because the player doesn't 'read' it in any way. It just gets shuffled through to the TV with the same quality as before.
Definately not... just curious, how do you plan to connect the coax to the blu ray player?... I have never seen one with an input or output for coax.... standard dvd/vhs sure... but not a blu ray.... that should only have component and hdmi inputs... btw, use an hdmi cable and your standard dvd's will look GREAT!!If I connect my cable through a Blu Ray player, will the picture be better?

What is the point of downloading blu ray updates on a ps3?
I have a stand alone blu ray player and it has read all blu rays perfectly so far. Why is it that ps3 has updates for the blu ray player, does it enhance sound and visual quality of the movies? im thinking of etting a ps3 but dont know whether a ps3 blu ray is better than stand alone blu ray player. What is the point of downloading blu ray updates on a ps3?
The PS3 updates encompass not only the Blu-Ray player, but the system as a whole. It adds new features to the system on a regular basis, including things like a video download store, photo gallery, and things like the trophy achievement system.
It's free new content almost monthly...why would you not want to do it?
Many Blu-Ray players that compare to the PS3 receive updates via Ethernet and internet connection as well, in case you didn't know. What is the point of downloading blu ray updates on a ps3?

What is this I hear about Blu-ray being a money-grabbing company?
I read somewhere that we shouldn't purchase Blu-ray discs - that they exist just to claim to be of higher quality, and to sell at high prices. Is this true?
I've seen comparisons of DVD and Blu-ray images, and I must say it's quite different. But are Blu-ray discs over priced? Should I wait for the next generations of purchasable film? What is this I hear about Blu-ray being a money-grabbing company?
Unfortunately I have a Blu-Ray player and haven't watched any Blu-Ray DVDs on it yet because I am into foreign films and most aren't out on Blu-Ray.. The good American films that are on Blu-Ray I've already seen.. In my situation it was not worth the money, but hopefully in the long run it will be.
It's a new technology, and as is usually the case, is expensive at first. I expect as the prices of the players fall and the range of Blu-ray discs available increases, there will be a greater uptake of the technology - and disc prices will fall.
I also expect Blu-ray will be the last time we'll be buying discs, downloads will be the way in the future. What is this I hear about Blu-ray being a money-grabbing company?
First, Blu-ray isn't a company, it's a standard supported by lots of companies.
Of course Blu-ray discs are overpriced, which is why I've only bought two, the rest I rent from Netflix. That's the nature of any new media.
But there is an enormous difference between Blu-ray and DVD. The picture contains six times as many pixels (1920x1080 vs. 720x480). DVDs look fuzzy, Blu-ray looks like you're at the theater.
Don't wait for the next generation, it will be years, and will probably be a 3D version of Blu-ray.What is this I hear about Blu-ray being a money-grabbing company?
BluRay is "Sony".
There is no 'claim', BluRay contains HD video.
Sony charges licensing fees for each disk and they are a company trying to make money. (Every business tries to do this).
Sony did some sleazy things like:
- Bribe studios to abandon the competing HD-DVD format
- Jack up the prices on players the week after HD-DVD gave up.
But if you have an HDTV - it's the best way to buy movies.
Everyone said the same thing when the DVD first came out, price was at $24.95 and up. The price of Blue ray disc will drop as more consumer upgrade to the new technology. Or you can wait till it drops to enough the better quality and sound that Blue Ray disc movies offers. Fry's Electronics offer Blue Ray Disc movies on sale at times for $9.99 and that's when I stock up to replace my old dvd collection.
Whatever it was that you read... I'd stop reading if I were you. It is worthless.
Blu-ray DVDs do cost a little more however, it yields a MUCH better picture and many of us consider it worth it.

Questions about building a computer with blu-ray capabilites?
I am looking to build an AMD computer with blu-ray capabilities. However I don't want integrated graphics on my motherboard. Is it possible to have a mother board that has its own blu-ray capabilities without onboard video or is the blu-ray integrated with the GPUs.
Thanks.Questions about building a computer with blu-ray capabilites?
Blu-ray support comes from the GPU and most of the current dedicated graphics card are fully capable of supporting blu-ray. Nothing to worry about motherboard choices.

Is it possible to play a regular dvd on a blu-ray dvd player?
I heard that they've stopped making hd dvd players. I have multiple dvds that wouldnt ever be made into blu ray disks. would i still be able to play them on a blu-ray player if they stopped making regular dvd players?
thanks. Is it possible to play a regular dvd on a blu-ray dvd player?
Almost all Blu-Ray players will player your regular DVD's I personnaly have not seen a player that can not play a DVD, but have heard there a are couple. A Blu-Ray player will also upconvert a standard DVD to near HD quality, not quit as good as a Blu-Ray dics, but better then your regular DVD player
You should be able to. I don't think they will show up as HD though. I'm glad the war is finally over so I will buy a HD player. Is it possible to play a regular dvd on a blu-ray dvd player?
Read the specifications before you buy. Most Blu-Ray players will play standard DVDs, but not all of them do. But hey, as long as your standard DVD player still works you can still use it -- the picture won't be as good as Blu-Ray, but it'll still be darned good.Is it possible to play a regular dvd on a blu-ray dvd player?
Yes, Blu-Ray players will also play your older DVD movies. This could be specific to certain models, though. Be sure to check the player you plan to buy.

Most graphics cards can play back blu-ray resolution already... (1080p)
You just need a graphics card that can handle graphics acceleration (all of them these days)
And one that can handle 1080p+ graphics
any GPU you get will be capable of blu-ray hardware accelerated playback.Questions about building a computer with blu-ray capabilites?
Well, in order to have a computer you need to have a graphic card of some kind. So long as you have one, it really does not matter what you get as long as it is not more than 3 years old.
So just buy a standard dedicated graphics card and you won't have to deal with onboard graphics.Questions about building a computer with blu-ray capabilites?
There are many AMD motherboard models that do not have onboard graphics you can use.

I would recommend that you get a motherboard with PCI-E x16 2.0 slot. Can get an awesome 200 series N-vidia graphics card for around 200. 8800GT maybe half that price and is also pretty good and uses the PCI-E x16 (original) slot; however, PCI-E x16 2.0 is reverse compatible for PCI-E x16 cards.
To play blu ray from blu ray disk you will need a blu-ray drive. To play it from hard drive, you don't need a blu ray player, just a decent graphics card.
If you also want to game, the 200 series graphics card would be a good option for that also.

Will the November release of Avatar on Blu-Ray have the theatrical cut along with the extended version?
I'm planning on waiting to buy Avatar on Blu-Ray until the edition with special features comes out. However, I keep reading that they are planning on implementing extended scenes into a new "director's cut" for the (proposed) November release. Do you think that edition will also have the regular theatrical version on the disc as well? I like having the original version. Maybe it's too soon to know yet...but any help would be appreciated thanks! Will the November release of Avatar on Blu-Ray have the theatrical cut along with the extended version?
James Cameron has said that the November Ultimate Edition will include three version.
1) the original version;
2) one with six minutes of finished footage added;
3) a much longer version, with some of the new scenes not fully realized but understandable.
So, yes, it will include the original theatrical version. Although with just 6 additional minutes of material, the extended cut isn't likely to be much different.

How much space do Blu Ray movies take up on a BD disk?
I wanted to know exactly how big the movies are on the Blu Ray disks when you buy them?
I'm not talking about the actual size of the Blu Ray disks (Which the dual layered Blu Ray disks are 50 gigs I think) but the data on them.
Also, have the movies on the disks changed in size since the launch of the Blu Ray players in 2006. For example: comparing X-men 3 to Dark Knight in size. How much space do Blu Ray movies take up on a BD disk?
Yes. The movie size is between 15-30 GB with some below that and some above that depending on bitrate and movie length. There aren't too many movies that exceed 30GB because of problems with manufacturing process and a high number of jitter errors on the outer tracks on dual layer discs. Right now there are only two methods of making discs with two or more layers... the "peel and stick" and embossing methods.
Here is a list of some Blu-ray titles with disc information compiled with BDInfo.
http://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?鈥?/a>
X-Men 3 is about 21.5GB and Dark Knight is about 35GB with Dark Knight using a slightly higher bitrate.
Blu-ray movies vary in size, but 15-30 GB is a good range for the movie and soundtracks. Add to that for special features.
Movies are usually judged by their length. While different video codecs will allow somewhat different degrees of compression (i.e. the same movie will take a bit more or less space), and the type and number of soundtracks can make a difference (particularly "uncompressed" tracks) to space requirements, the length of movies hasn't been effected by the advent of Blu-ray.
Remember that movies are (usually) made for movie theaters ... and DVD and Blu-ray are simply two other mechanisms to deliver the movie. As an aside, that's also why most movies are widescreen format and don't fit TV screens ... they are made to show in cinemas.
So ... the total space taken up on Blu-ray disks has probably increased on average (it's there so studios will be tempted to use it for extras and increased sound choices ... at least on blockbuster movies) ... but the movie itself isn't any longer. How much space do Blu Ray movies take up on a BD disk?
25-30 gb is the average amount used on discs now(some even less HD DVD only held 25-30 gb but did not utilize all of it and many blu-rays are direct ports a la blazing saddles, full metal jacket, etc.) they have even been in the talks of a 3rd layer BD disc which would store a whopping 74gb and some change. I don't think the disks have changed size as much as the files are just getting bigger. The X-men vid and soundtrack files are much smaller than that of the Dark Knight. I wish they would use the whole disc in some cases, like the "heroes"box sett which in HD even would not take up as many discs as they stretch them out over. The 8 gigs the other guy stated would be the average for Standard Progressive DVDs, but not Blu.How much space do Blu Ray movies take up on a BD disk?
That depends entirely on the movie and its audio soundtracks. A 3 hour movie will be larger than a 90 minute one and a movie with TrueHD, Dolby 5.1, Spanish, French, Japanese, etc. will be larger than one that has only one soundtrack. I haven't seen file size specified on any websites selling Blu-rays. It might by on the BD packaging but I doubt it.
You know the file can't be any bigger than the storage capacity of the disc itself--25GB or 50GB for dual layer.
They are usually like 8 gigs in size give or take a gigmakeup trends

Yes. The picture and sound quality may not be up to par, but as long as you have a Blu Ray player, you should be good to go.
Most blue ray players require an HDMI or component video inputs, and most non HDTVs do not have that. However, if you are able to hook it up to your tv, it should work, but will not look better than your regular dvd.Can you play blu ray movies on a non high definition television?

Blu-ray???
can you play normal dvds on a blue-ray?? do you think dvds will fade away like vhs and blue-ray will be the next big thing???Blu-ray???
yes, and yes. Normal DVDs might look a little grainy on your HD set considering your TV will pick out every little error the DVD has.
Blu-Ray players are compatatble with normal standard definition dvds.
I think Blu-Ray is going to become the next big thing because it is very high class.
Next we might even have invisible laser discs =PBlu-ray???
Yes you can play normal DVD on Blue-Ray players. Most players have upscaling to improve the SD DVD signal for display on an HD set. As to the signal fading, this should not happen, as the information is burnt into the aluminum sheet (inside the DVD) as compared with a magnetic signal that was placed on the VCR tape.Blu-ray???
DVDs won't fade away for a long time. DVDs replace VHS for both picture quality and ease of use. The differences are very dramatic. Blu Ray isn't easier to use than a standard DVD and although to a monster tech junkie there might a picture difference, the general public cannot tell a difference. There will never be a takover of DVDs in the way that DVDs took over VHS. Long story short....DVDs aren't going anywhere in mine or your lfetime
Blu-ray players not only play Blu-ray disks, they play and upconvert DVDs to "near HD" quality (as do many less expensive DVD players).
But Blu-ray is not for everyone. You need a minimum HDMI equipped HDTV ... preferably 40"+ and 1080p ... and a good surround system to take advanatge of the advanced sound. You will still get some benefit on smaller/720p HDTVs but the benefit/cost ratio over upconverted DVD is much reduced.
Finally, it's expensive to buy (~$400+), no currrent player other than the PS3 game console is recommended, and disks cost $5-$20 more than DVD (depending on movie and where you are).
Bottom line --- if you can afford it and can benefit --- it's can be a great picture and sound.
Regarding DVDs ... they are not going away any time soon. In fact they are still growing faster than Blu-ray (There are currently 82,700 DVD titles now, and 600 new ones are scheduled by June 30. On the other hand there are ~500 Blu-ray titles and only 60 scheduled in the next 6 months). Furthermore, many experts believe .. at least for rental .. video on demand/download is the medium to watch.
It increasingly looks like Blu-ray will remain what it is --- a premium priced HD alternative to DVD ... not a replacement.
blu ray isnt that good its the same as hd dont get it its a rip off
yes, and yes.
Blu ray???
for the blu ray internal disk drives for pc's, if u download a movie would it burn make the picture clearer than what u downloaded??Blu ray???
No, you cannot actually increase the video quality of the source file better then the original encoding, the only thing you can do to enhance a source video is to apply a dithering filter to smooth out pixelation but simply burning a movie to blu-ray disc will not do this, nor is it really worth it even if it did considering the incredible cost of blu-ray recordable discs (20$ a piece)Blu ray???
It would be impossible to burn at a higher quality than the original. At best you could hope for the picture quality to be equal.

Blu-ray????
so blu-ray is basically 1080P dvds that have more storage and is read with a blue laser or some ****???Blu-ray????
Don't forget 5 times the bit transfer rate of DVDs...
Pretty much. Note the storage space is pretty much irrelevent and to the user the laser doesn't matter (other than to mean you can't read a Blu-ray disk on a DVD player)
Blu-ray is an HD alternative to DVD. Players will upconvert DVDs to near HD quality (as will much less expensive stand alone upconverting DVD players).
People differ in their opinion about how big the improvement of Blu-ray is over DVD. Some rave about it. Others decide the benefit isn't worth the cost and are satisfied with upconverted DVD. You have to decide for yourself. See the link (best with a broadband connection) for comparison photos of not only Blu-ray and DVD, but some HDTV sites (e.g. Apple TV 2.0, HD Cable) ... differences, but ... well, you decide.
If you have a 1080p HDTV and a good surround sound system you will see a great picture form Blu-ray, but on a small/720p HDTV or if you don't have HDMI connections, results will be less impressive.
Costs for a Blu-ray player (~$400) and infastructure to support Blu-ray (HDTV, sound system) are high. And disks cost $5-20 more than for the same DVD.
With over 82,000 titles on DVD (and 600 more announced for the next 4 months) and only 500 on Blu-ray (and only 60 more announced over the next 6 months) it will be along, long time before DVD disappears.Blu-ray????
Yup you got it! 720P can also be put on it.Blu-ray????
And along with all the sweet HiDef video, you also get Dolby True HD and DTS Master HD sound. Basically you get 5.1 surround sound with the 24 bit / 192 khz sampling rate that a DVD-Audio can only do in two channel stereo. Or you can have 7.1 surround sound with 24 bit / 96 khz resolution. Contrast this to normal DVD movie surrounds such as Dolby Digital and DTS, which are not only not high resoultion, they're actually compressed audio tracks. Not to the extent mp3 players or ipods are, but nowhere near what Blu-Ray can do. The only thing is, you'll need an A/V receiver capable of decoding True HD and DTS Master, which is a little spendy, but just think movie surround sound with true audiophile quality sound!neutrogena

How to connect Blu Ray to Sound System and HDTV?
How do you properly connect a Blu Ray player to the sound system and HDTV?
We have one outlet for the HDMI cable. Where do we connect this to so the sound comes from the sound system and the picture is HD?
Currently, we have the HDMI cable to the receiver. We have the red/yellow/white cables attached to the TV. The sound works fine, but the picture from the Blu Ray just doesn't seem right...? Or am I being weird?
How should we connect it so we get the optimum settings for both? How to connect Blu Ray to Sound System and HDTV?
You need too hook up your another hdmi from your sound reciever in the hdmi out on the back of the reciever and then connect it to the tv you you will have hd that's your problem the yellow white and red cables arnt hd those are analog
Your Blu-ray player should has a digital Optical on it. Use the HDMI and connect it to the TV and run the Digital optical cable from your blu-ray player to your surround sound. Digital optical will be your best option for the best sound.
The digital optical will have a RED light shinning through when your blu-ray is on. If you see a RED light then you have it. Ebay it for a good deal. How to connect Blu Ray to Sound System and HDTV?
"We have the red/yellow/white cables attached to the TV. "
That is bad.
The yellow cable is composite video - the worst type of connection for standard def, and it wont support HD.
What kind of sound-system do you have?
I suspect you have a $199 box system with a skinny receiver with a disk-drive built in. If so - you are out of luck. These systems are ... DVD players with attached speakers. They do not have the electronics to let you hook up other things and decode 5.1.
Your best bet is to run HDMI straight from the BluRay player to the TV. If your sound system has 'optical' input - run a Toslink optical cable from the TV optical output to the optical input on the 'system'. That should give you both HD video and 5.1 sound. How to connect Blu Ray to Sound System and HDTV?

Where can I buy wholesale blu ray dvds to resell?
I need to find a supplier that sells wholesale blu ray dvds, so I can sell blu ray dvds in my store. I have standard dvd suppliers, but I can't find any blu ray dvd suppliers.Where can I buy wholesale blu ray dvds to resell?
You can find the contact details of suppliers and their product list from B2B websites. You can search for suppliers of a products from a good B2B website and contact or call them directly from these B2B websites for free. Try http://www.hellotrade.com or http://www.alibaba.com
If you don't mind dealing in adult products you should check out http://www.wholesalexxxdvd.com since they actually seem to sell in bulk wholesale packs. After browsing the net you will see they are about 50% lower than other sites that claim to be "wholesale"
I could give you wholesale directory information too... but i won't. I don't beleive you can make a profit selling blu ray or dvds online. There is little profit margin found in selling new product. Distribution channels sare too mature and streamlined to allow profit for a startup.
But if you consider buying and selling USED there is opportunity there for you still. This calls for a little work upfront to search for product. You will need to ferret out used dvds and cds at garage sales and thrift stores.Where can I buy wholesale blu ray dvds to resell?

I have a Sony - BRAVIA 850W 5.1-Ch. 3D Blu-ray Home Theater System
Model: BDVE370
I want to be able to connect to the internet wirelessly so I can utilize it's capabilities with Netflix, Pandora, etc.
Does anyone know what the little piece I need to purchase that makes Wireless INTERNET connection possible? What component do i need for my sony bravia blu ray player to connect to internet wirelessly?
Ethernet bridge adaptor (kinda hard to find, and a bit expensive)
Belkin Wireless -G Ethernet Adaptor- FSD7330
My Sony Blu-Ray player is hardwired to the 'net using an ethernet switch and ethernet cable. (not a big fan of wireless)
Good LuckWhat component do i need for my sony bravia blu ray player to connect to internet wirelessly?
sony sells a usb adaptor if you want to go wireless, but i would buy a powerline kit or one like the belkin mentioned earlier. they work similar to wireless but with better speeds/connectivity

Is it pointless to buy a Blu Ray player if you don't have a high def television set?
We own a gigantic Mitsubishi projection big screen tv that is 8 years old and still works great. Will we still get all the benefits of Blu Ray without having an HD tv?Is it pointless to buy a Blu Ray player if you don't have a high def television set?
I'm going to go against everyone here and here's my logic.
If your TV can connect to the blu ray player (with blu ray set to output 480p) I'm guessing your TV has at least component input, then I would go for the blu ray, here's why. You'll build your blu ray library whenever you do buy something and don't rent it.
You'll stop buying DVDs that are on the way out. When you do get a true HDTV and you will because they are getting cheaper every month, you'll already have your blu ray/DVD player and a nice little blu ray library. With more and more blu ray titles of older movies coming in at 10 bucks at Walmart and even a few at Target, why not upgrade now?
So while it might seem pointless today, it makes sense tomorrow.
You are not going to get the benefit of the blu ray disc movies if you don't have a 1080P tv. Also you can can see the difference between 720P and 1080P in screen size smaller than a 46". Blu ray disc players price have gone dropped and will continue to drop, you might be wise to wait until you are ready to replace your old Mitsubishi tv.Is it pointless to buy a Blu Ray player if you don't have a high def television set?
You'll get everything but high-definition video.
A lot of blu-ray players are starting to ship with internet-connected features, like Netflix, YouTube, etc. So there's that...plus 7.1 digital audio and a lot of other bells and whistles.
But to answer your question, yes. It is pointless to buy a Blu Ray player without HD. Picture-wise, it will appear the same as a DVD player. Plus, you'll be paying extra to buy or rent blu-ray discs. Not worth it.
I'd recommend buying an HDTV and donating your working TV to charity. Is it pointless to buy a Blu Ray player if you don't have a high def television set?
Unfortunetly No. Blu Ray looks sharper with an HDTV, which makes the resolution up better. If you do get it, it might just help it look better but not as good as its suppose to look like.
yes, it will pretty much useless. It will be like having an expensive dvd player.

What is the difference between a blu-ray player that has 1080p output vs. 1080p upconversion?
I thought that all blu-ray players output in 1080p. Is this not the case? What is the difference between a blu-ray player that has 1080p output vs. 1080p upconversion?
You can tell the player to output in 480, 720 or 1080 resolution.
Sony players will output 1080i out the component cable jacks, but not 1080p. For copy protection reasons you only get 1080p from the HDMI jack with Sony BluRay players.
Also - BluRay players will up-convert standard DVD's to what ever resolution you say - but this only works using a HDMI cable. If you use analog cables - you only get 480 resolution. (This is not bad as most televisions also up-convert from 480 to their internal resolution). What is the difference between a blu-ray player that has 1080p output vs. 1080p upconversion?
They do playback at 1080p. But a standard dvd is 480p %26amp; gets the resolution upconverted to 1080p. Either the dvd player can upconvert the video or the receiver can do it. But the TV can only playback the max resolution that it's given.

How many years do you think Blu-ray is going to last until digital media stream takes over?
Blu-ray is awesome for PS3 games and HD movies, but how many years would you say until digital media takes over?
On Xbox 360 the Xbox LIVE marketplaces are brilliant, they suit everyone and there's no reason that I'd actually complain about it. To play online the user needs to pay but that's because servers cost a lot of money. How many years do you think Blu-ray is going to last until digital media stream takes over?
Im 25 and ive seen cassettes change to cd's to mini-discs to digital stuff.
When they stand to make a lot of money from it, thats when it'll change.
Probably 10-15 years im guessing maybe sooner.
I think physical media such as blu-ray disks will be around some time yet. The problem with streaming and downloading is that:
a) unsecure. There are still severe security issues in terms of prevfenting people making and distributing copies, so studios and producers will be wary of adopting it totally until they are certain its secure.
b) digital media still relies on the speed of a persons home internet speed. Until it can be gaurenteed that EVERY home could get the kind of speed (and indeed does) that would be required for streaming (without buffering) or extremely fast downloads, it won't be seen as a feasible replacement for disks. How many years do you think Blu-ray is going to last until digital media stream takes over?
I think blu-ray will last longer than you live, or at least something similar will take it's place, why? because people still read the newspaper when there's so much more on the internet some people just want something they can hold and my internet goes slow for a while/goes over the max quota more often then cars break down when going to the video store. How many years do you think Blu-ray is going to last until digital media stream takes over?
I think it will probably be 3 or 4 years
Not too long.. a few years probablyprinter cartridge

What is the difference between upscaling dvd players and Blu-Ray dvd players?
I want to upscale my dvds and I want to know if Blu-Ray has anything extra over a regular upscale player. What is the difference between upscaling dvd players and Blu-Ray dvd players?
The most important thing to remember is that all DVD's only have 480 interlaced lines to create the picture and no amount of scaling, upconverting or virgin sacrifices will ever change that.
Sure upscaling DVD players do a good job of "cleaning up" the picture over a regular non-upconverting player, but the disc still only has 480 interlaced lines.
Bluray discs have 1080 progressive scanned lines to create a picture, so you get between 5-7 times more resolution and the picture quality is far better than an "upconverted" standard DVD. Now if you get a Bluray player and connect it via HDMI, the Bluray player will also "upconvert" standard DVD's but you still will only have 480i scan lines, but also have the option of playing Bluray movies.
If your gonna buy an upcoverting player, i would suggest you check out internet brand Oppo players. Going head to head against players costing thousands in lab testing, the Oppo players beat them out hands down, including cadence, 3:2 pull down conversion and picture quality. Oppo players can be had for about 150.00
If you want to be future proof, spend 150.00 more than the Oppo and get a PS3 which currently is ranked as the best Bluray player and is easily "upgraded" via internet.
i also agree on prices for movies. i have over 150 bluray movies and the most I think I have spent is 20.00 and that was for the five disc Blade Runner version. Most movies can be bought cheap online or at stores like Fry's Electronics which always has 10.00 Bluray movies on sale or two for one deals.
most of the bluray players upscale dvds .
bluray can obviously play dvds and blurays at the full hd resoultion thatis 1080p

good luckWhat is the difference between upscaling dvd players and Blu-Ray dvd players?
Bluray looks way better than upscaled dvds. They have about 5 times the detail if you have a good enough TV (1080i/1080p)What is the difference between upscaling dvd players and Blu-Ray dvd players?
About the only reason I can see for buying a Blu-ray player for DVD upscaling is so that you can go ahead and upgrade your entire player to jump on the HD bandwagon. Personally, I'd wait. The Blu-ray standard isn't a standard yet: They keep changing things, such as recently upping the profile to one older players can't support. Once the Blu-ray camp gets all their ducks in a row, it might finally be worth thinking about.
Even then I'd wait. $30 movies? No thanks. I say give it another year to see if prices on players and movies even show *signs* of going down.
Fortunately, upscaling DVD players can be found at very decent prices these days. If you've got HDMI ports on your television, I say go for it.
The upscaling technology is pretty much the same for standard DVDs whether you go with a DVD set top or a Blu-ray player. Most use a bilinear scaling similar to what computer video cards have been doing for years, and give you results that might make you not care about true HD for awhile (depending on your television and personal taste). If you have a Bestbuy or larger electronics dealer nearby, by all means ask to see the difference between a standard composite image and an upscaled one.
[Edit] Um, Lord Greatmane? I'm not a "she." Lord G is right, however, about the composite video. I meant to say "component." The difference is that component uses three cables to transmit video data (higher bandwidth), where composite only uses one. HDMI only uses one, as well--but no analog conversion takes place, and all data arrives to its target free of further compression or alteration.
[Edit] To sjburke73, I ask where my misinformation is. You've just admitted that features were added to the Blu-ray profile. Fine, but what happens if you already own a player that can't access them? You're paying money for features present on the disk... but you can't access them. It's penalty for early adoption. NOW, as for your movie prices. Do you honestly think the average consumer spends the entire day combing the internet for deals? Movies tend to be bought while out getting other things. Even dedicated electronics giants like Bestbuy do their best to keep the movie selection close to the entrance to snag buyers; go in for a video card, walk out with a video card and "Ace Ventura." Also, it helps to pay attention to the release prices of *new* arrivals. All older titles find their way into the bargain bin. VHS had it. DVD still has it. Blu-ray now has it, as well. You're obviously sold on this expensive and still-evolving technology--and that's fine. But calling *me* "jaded" and then proceeding to bash me with baseless bullshit is just childish. Have fun spending tons of money!
While writersblock makes some valid points she fails when she talks about comparing the two. Composite is the worst way to transmit video. Any HDMI player will look great compared to composite even if it's running at 480.
As to what you get with a BD player compared to an upscaling player? The ability to play BD disks. Standard DVDs are at 480 lines of resolution. BDs are at 1080 lines.
To make it clearer, SD is 307,200 pixels. BD is 2,073,600 pixels, almost 7 times more. That's a heck of a difference.
If you wait till next Christmas the prices will be coming down some. For now you might want to go to Wal-mart and grab a cheap upscaling player for about $40 and save your pennies for a BD player once the prices get a little more reasonable.
Upscaling DVD players that cost under $200 are a big scam.
Your HDTV scales all inputs to its native resolution, so which do you think is going to do a better job, the $3,000 HDTV or the $79 upscaling DVD player? The only upscaling DVD players that do a better job than the TV are ones with Realta, Reon or Anchor Bay processing chips inside them, and you will NOT find those for under $200.
In addition plenty of the new receivers on the market now have better upscaling than the budget players. Truly, a big scam.
Nevermind that the upscaling doesn't magically change the native 480i resolution of the DVD. Garbage in, garbage out. You still get the same pixelation and macroblocking that was on the low bitrate MPEG-2 encoded DVD to begin with.
"writersblock" is obviously a bit jaded and feeding you plenty of misinformation. The "profiles" that he's talking about merely added features. The actual movie is still playable on ALL Blu-ray Disc players. Certain features like internet connectivity require a BD-Live player that's hooked up to the internet, if you don't run an internet connection to the player, you can't access the features. Bonus View discs when played on the original players will allow you to view all the PIP features as separate featurettes, thus you're not missing anything there either.
Also, I don't know who is stupid enough to pay MSRP pricing for discs, because most BLu-ray Discs are within a few $'s of their special edition DVD counterparts. There are LOADS of Blu-ray Discs available for under $20, you just have to take a moment to look for them.

The difference in image of a Blu-ray Disc over an upscaled DVD is night and day unless you're sitting 20ft away from a 40" screen.
Unless you're DVD player has crapped out, I'd hold off for just four more months when you'll be able to score a fully functioning Blu-ray player for $199 on Black Friday, then again in the weeks leading up to Christmas.
Bluray is in a native 1080/24p display, but upconverting can take a standard dvd and fill in pixels up to 1080/24p. It's just as sharp as BR but not as accurate because it's using algorithms to fill in the missing pixels. So it looks "almost" as good, but not quite. Considering the difference in price and I'm using an HD-DVD player - almost is good enough for me, I may never go bluray. I can have a bunch of dvd's and dvd players in the house, but BR is too expensive for that including new discs.
The most important thing to remember is that all DVD's only have 480 interlaced lines to create the picture and no amount of scaling, upconverting or virgin sacrifices will ever change that.

How do I get my blu ray player to play my movie?
I just bought my movie sideways on blu ray, and it wont play on my insignia blu ray player, it keeps going to the title page every time I select play. The movie isnt supposed to come out til tuesday, is that why its not playing?? Or do I need to update something, if so, how? ThanksHow do I get my blu ray player to play my movie?

If you have a "bootleg" copy then that is your problem. If you would have said you are having problems with playing Blu Ray disc then I would have said you need to update your firmware.
I highly suggest you do not buy bootlegs and play them on HD - it is like putting regular unleaded in a Ferrari. You've paid a boat-load of money for HD quality, but you are putting camcorder quality, with terrible lighting in your Blu Ray.
I am a huge advocate for paying for music downloads and movies. Please consider the effort of even the labor guys on the set of a movie. If movies do not produce the expected revenues it is not the actors and big guys that take a pay cut first. They want to cut the lower end guys first. Consider going see the movie at the movie theater. How do I get my blu ray player to play my movie?
The #1 rule with Blu-ray players is "Update the firmware". The #1 rule for all entertainment media is "Piracy=stealing". If you have obtained your copy via legal means then I can tell you the movie's release date has nothing to do with whether or not it will play.

Can I hook up my blu ray player to older surround system?
I have an LG blu ray player, model BD270. Im wondering if I can hook it up to my older dvd/5.1 channel speaker system. DVD player is an AudioLogic, a few steps down to your typical sony. Im just confused, sounds weird to hook up a blu ray player to a dvd player and use the audio portion of it.Can I hook up my blu ray player to older surround system?
Connect optical cable ( 5.1 surround sound ) or red %26amp; white cables ( stereo ) output from Blu-ray player to sound system input for audio.
Most home theater in box are not flexible for connecting additional equipment to them. Like your blu ray disc player, you might be able to connect the audio portion if you have an audio input to your system. Look or an optical or coax input, this will provide the 5.1 surround sound while the rca red and white does not. In the future I recommend you get a receiver and separate speakers. The receiver is flexible for any additional gear you want for the future. Hope this will help you out.Can I hook up my blu ray player to older surround system?
Every time I plugged my speakers into my laptop, a window opened to configure them. I was annoyed by it and I pressed don't show this again. Now even when the speakers are plugged in the music and sounds played out of both the speakers and my computer. I think I need that page to come up again so if anyone knows how to get it back or get the music to play out of just the speakers it would be great. Thanks.

How can i become a blu-ray retailer?
I have found a few distribution companies that sell blu-ray movies and products but most have been 3rd party companies and do not have decent enough prices. If someone knows of a better distribution company that sells blu-ray at wholesale prices, i would greatly appreciate the info. I am starting up my own movie store website. How can i become a blu-ray retailer?
The movie business is a big competitive market on the net, its hard to compete trying to sell any type of movie whether it be DVD's, HD. or Blue-Ray especially with the already established companies. My advice would be check out the competition on eBay first and see how low there prices are, it'll be very hard to compete since these guys are making hardly any profit on each sell. I wish you the best of luck.
As for the sources try a wholesale list from the site listed below it may help you, otherwise go directly to the source of the companies who make the movies and find out who you can purchase them from in bulk. How can i become a blu-ray retailer?
I'm pleased at least that you are brave enough to go all out for Blu-ray.
Many years ago, Sony lost out to JVC on the video format front, and to me atleast, the Betamax video format was, by far, superior to VHS.
Hope the link below is of some use. Good luck in your venture.origins

Whats the difference between a blu ray player that is wifi enabled or wifi ready?
Looking at getting a blu ray player and not familiar with them.
What should I look for in a blu ray player?Whats the difference between a blu ray player that is wifi enabled or wifi ready?
Wifi enabled means it has it's own Wifi adapter built in. Wifi ready means it will do wifi if you buy a wifi adapter (usually a USB Dongle). what to look for depends on what you want. Some have netflix and pandora apps some do not. Some have a hard time playing some movies. so I would google Blu ray player reviews and find the best one for you.Whats the difference between a blu ray player that is wifi enabled or wifi ready?
The only difference between the two is that one has the option to be connected to the internet either through a USB Adaptor (Which has to be purchased) or Ethernet cable (WiFi Ready). The other one requires no purchase of any addtional equipment, it just needs a wireless signal for it to connect to (WiFi Enable)
Neither one has an effect on the actual Blu Ray Players performace

How can i get my Blu-ray player to play at 240 hz?
I just recently bought a a Sony Blu-ray player. I have already had a samsung 240 hz tv. When i play a movie such as 300 on the blu-ray player, it only says that it's on 24hz. I'd like to be able to play it at a full 240 hz. Or does it not matter what the input signal says and its just the tv? Thanks in advance. How can i get my Blu-ray player to play at 240 hz?
240 Hz is mostly fiction. LCD screens do it because LCD's struggle to switch fast enough for action movies. It is a way of telling the consumer that this TV plays action movies really well. The only thing that does 240 Hz is the TV itself. Movies, on the other hand, are filmed at 24 Hz. The only way to get them to run at 240 Hz is to use interpolation to artificially generate 9 non existent frames between each real one. It is NOT worth doing so thy don't.
Not only is there no material that runs at 240 Hz, there is no material at 120 Hz. As for 1080p 60Hz, while possible, I do not know of anything that does. Programs on your TV are broadcast at 1080i or 60 half frames. This resolution is no worse then anything else as your LCD panel MUST capture both halves of the frame, then integrate them before displaying. So, while your signal is 1080i, the TV MUST make it 1080p for display. That is, it takes 60 half frames and makes 30 full frames out of it. This is true for both Plasma and LCD. In some ways, it is better then your Blu-ray movies in that it has 6 more frames per second. However, Cable and Satellite both compress the crap out of the signal, far more then Blu-ray movies.
The really short answer is, don't worry about it.How can i get my Blu-ray player to play at 240 hz?
There are no movies that are produced in 240HZ, that's only for LCD and LED tvs for the refresh rate.
I don't think that the movie states 24HZ, it probably states 24 frames per second.
240 Hz is mostly fiction. LCD screens do it because LCD's struggle to switch fast enough for action movies. It is a way of telling the consumer that this TV plays action movies really well. What use are the built in sound decoders on my blu ray player?
Hi i just bought a blu ray player that has built in audio decoders for all the new stuff like DTS-HD etc. How does this work? Can i get those decoders to play through my regular 5.1 system or do i still need a 7.1 reciever to play them? I was looking a receiver with all the HD type decoders on it but do i need them on both the blue ray and the receiver? What use are the built in sound decoders on my blu ray player?
You need either your player OR your receiver to decode the audio formats, but you don't need both. If your receiver doesn't have HDMI 1.3 you'll need your player to decode it. The catch is your player will have to have analog outputs and your receiver will have to have analog inputs. Now you're 5.1 receiver probably has the inputs, but your player probably doesn't have analog outs-most do not. If you list your receiver and player models I can take a look and see if it's possible.
If you're receiver and player don't meet these requirements, you'll need to consider that when buying a receiver. You can find a receiver that will do 7.1 and decode the audio formats internally for about $400+What use are the built in sound decoders on my blu ray player?
To get the best out of you're Blu Ray player you're receiver must be able to decode Dolby True HD or DTS HD. Not all Blu Ray movies can play 7.1 most play 5.1 and yes you're Blu Ray player and reciver have to be able to decode Dolby True HD or DTS HD.What use are the built in sound decoders on my blu ray player?
Yes, you need a 7.1 receiver that supports audio via HDMI.

I bought a couple of Blu-Ray movies (made in the 90's) and when I watch them on my PS3, its displayed as full screen. I thought all Blu-Ray movies are displayed as widescreen. How many people think that Blu ray players & Blu ray DVDs are to expensive?
How many people think there is to much hype about Blu ray? Most people don't see the need to upgrade. All you are getting is a HD quality picture %26amp; sound. Also more storage space on one disc which currently is not being used. How many people think that Blu ray players %26amp; Blu ray DVDs are to expensive?
I dont see the hype either. Recent dvd movie releases (2006-present) have HD-like quality and sound because film makers have upgraded their cameras and whatever stuffs they use into better ones. If you'll compare movies made for example in 2000 to 2004 there's an obvious difference in picture quality, like color, and sound. I have The Dark Knight and Wanted dvds and their picture and sound are both astounding! Truly HD versus my 2001 Planet of the Apes. This bluray thing is all about business. They will create something new for us to make us feel somehow obsolete. Therefore people feel outdated and compelled to try these new stuffs. Each year they will reveal like two or few features and you'll suddenly feel your 2-year old gadget is a decade old. I'm sure 10 years from now they will entice the public of another super-mega-ultimate HD player and bluray will gradually be buried in history.
You can enjoy films with excellent picture and sound quality. If you are interested in it ,please look at this website: www.besthdsoft.com ,you will find more surprise!!! I am sure you will like it!!!
I can afford it. Not a big deal for me to spend 25 bucks on a BD. Just bought Dark Knight 2-disc BD and all I have to say is money well spent. If one can't afford it, or one doesn't see the difference between BD and DVD, then there is no point for that person to even look into BD. Leave it alone. Let those people stay in lower quality standards. Most of them are about story and screenplay and not visuals and sound. But eventually, they will make the switch, as in a few years, HD will become standard, and something else will be of greater quality, as always.
As for storage space, all of that space on the disc is used up. Films take up a whole lot of space, so having more space on a disc means less compression, and more better looking visuals %26amp; audio. This is one of the things that allows HD to be possible. All that space is used on those BD's. The whole 25 or 50 gigs. How many people think that Blu ray players %26amp; Blu ray DVDs are to expensive?
Blu-Ray discs, or BDs--not Blu-Ray "DVDs"--*are* too expensive. That's why, despite the fact I've had a BD player for a year, I don't own any. High price is always an issue with new media formats. It happened when DVDs came out and CDs before that.
Is there too much hype about Blu-Ray? First of all, marketing/advertising isn't "hype", it's a company trying to convince you to buy something.
So what about Blu-Ray? Do you own an HD TV? Do you want a better picture? That's all Blu-Ray is--a better picture. It's the fulfillment of an HD TV. With regular TV programming you don't need an LCD.
Is it necessary? No, not really. But then a lot of things aren't necessary. Are you listening to phonographs? Do you use an abacus? Do you ride a wagon to work? Are you typing on your computer by candlelight? Not all technological advancements are necessary, but many of them make life easier or more enjoyable.
@Caroline: "on my plasma tv any dvd you put in the dvd player is in HD anyway, so i don't get it" It may look good, but it isn't in HD. If you play a Blu-Ray on that plasma it will look even better.
I'm sure the price may be still too high for some to switch, but the price is continuing to go down, and even the software is coming down closer to the DVD format, so Blu-Ray is starting to look like a good choice for high-definition home movie viewing. I took the plunge recently, and (besides the processing takes longer than a standard DVD player), I'm not looking back. Blu-Ray is worth it if you have an HDTV, and especially if it is capable of 1080p resolution.
Happy viewing!
actually they have gone down in price for the holidays, walmart had a bluray player for under $200
yeah, i don't really see the point to blu ray. i mean, on my plasma tv any dvd you put in the dvd player is in HD anyway, so i don't get it.

Is it worth getting a blu ray player on a 1080i 32 inch television?
I have a 32 inch LG26LX2R, which I am very happy with. However, I am looking at buying a blu ray dvd player and have heard alot about it not being worth the price if your tv is 1080i? Can anyone help me out with this?Is it worth getting a blu ray player on a 1080i 32 inch television?
There's nothing wrong with buying a Blu-ray player for a smaller screen say a 32" or 26" display. Most likely you would not notice much difference between the average DVD and average Blu-ray disc on a screen under 50".
Still, if you plan to have a larger screen (50"+) in the near future and want to start collecting Blu-rays, it makes sense. A Blu-ray player also does a great job of playing DVDs back on your high definition TV.
It would be less expensive to buy a good upconverting DVD player and continue buying, renting, and owning regular DVDs.Is it worth getting a blu ray player on a 1080i 32 inch television?
I can't honestly say that it will be worth it for you. There will be a difference, but it won't be significant.
A 26" screen is pretty small and 1080i means you won't get the benefit of progressive video.
The difference between 576p (UK) DVD resolution and 1080i high definition on a 26" screen is not going to make a huge difference, the screen size is probably too small for your eyes to effectively resolve the high definition detail from a standard viewing distance. If however you are watching close to the screen like a computer monitor, then you may be able to see the extra detail.
So my honest answer is no, it probably isn't worth it until you upgrade to a larger 1080p TV, but that depends somewhat on your viewing distance from the TV.Is it worth getting a blu ray player on a 1080i 32 inch television?
yes it is worth it

I need to replace my blu ray drive, and i am thinking of sending it to sony and let them do the work, but i looked up the cost and it said 170 to 190 dollars per hour of work. Can a blu ray disc be played on a old dvd player or do I need to buy a new player to play them?
I realy do not understand all this electronic stuff..What I am saying is can I play old DVD's on the new eletronics things vcoming out..Or do I need to buy new electronic system to play them..Also can you plasy a Blu-Ray on a old DVD player? Can a blu ray disc be played on a old dvd player or do I need to buy a new player to play them?
You would need a Blu-ray Player to play the Blu-Ray Disc. The old dvd players cannot read the blu-ray disc. However, the blu-ray player can play old dvds.
If plan on purchasing a blu-player, I recommend the Playstation 3 because it can be updated.

no, old dvd players will not play blu-ray discs. I'm not completely sure about blu-ray players but I do know that hddvd players will play the older discs.
You will have to purchase a Blue Ray DVD player
Blu-Ray discs can only be played on a Blu-Ray player. However, most Blu-Ray players will play standard DVDs. Check before you buy though...and bear in mind Blu-Ray only has about 400 movie titles right now. You might want to wait on buying a Blu-Ray player. Now that it appears Blu-Ray will be the next format, the prices for Blu-Ray players should come down over the next year or two.

Would a blu ray disk work on my computer?
I have a Toshiba laptop. I was wondering if a blu ray disk would play on it.Would a blu ray disk work on my computer?
If you have a blu-ray disc drive on your computer, then yes. But mostly only new and more expensive computers have that, so if you have bought a relatively cheap computer, you probably don't.
But the best way to find out is to simply put a blu-ray disc into your computer and see if it would recognize it. If it does, then you can use blu-ray discs on it.Would a blu ray disk work on my computer?

Can you hook up a Blu Ray player to a Panasonic surround sound system?
I'm interested in buying a Blu Ray player, but I don't want to buy a new surround sound system. Can you hook up a Blu Ray player to a Panasonic surround sound system?
Some entry level surround systems have few or even no audio inputs. If you want 5.1 surround, then your surround receiver would need to have an optical (or coaxial) digital audio input (and the Blu-ray player would need an audio output to match, either optical or digital).
If your surround receiver has stereo audio inputs (red and white color coded RCA inputs), then you could connect the Blu-ray player that way, but this would be 2.0 stereo, and not 5.1 surround.
If you can get the audio connected to the surround system, I am guessing you would still connect the Blu-ray player's video output directly to the TV, because your receiver probably has no video input, or at least no HD video input. Can you hook up a Blu Ray player to a Panasonic surround sound system?

How to connect a home cinema to a blu-ray player ?
I have bought a Phillips 6 speaker system with a DVD player combined. I need to reconnect these speakers to a blu-ray player. Altogether there are 2 standing tallboy speakers, 1 large sub woofer, 2 small speakers, and a bar speaker. The Home Cinema system was bought as a whole and need to disconnect it from the DVD player it came with and plug it into a blu-ray play, how can i do this, help please. How to connect a home cinema to a blu-ray player ?
While I may agree with the "Old SOB" below... you still can use a Blu-Ray player with that setup.
Here's how to do it:
1) Get some cables
You'll need an optical audio cable, and an HDMI (or Component (RGB)) video cable.
2) Run the Cables
Run the optical audio cable from the "Optical Out" port in the Blu-Ray player to the "Optical In" port in the back of the Philips receiver.
Run the HDMI (or RGB) cable from the back of the Blu-Ray to to TV.
3) Set Up the Components
Unit Settings: You'll need to turn off the speakers on the TV. Dig around in the onscreen menus to do that.
Then, you'll need to figure out the input settings for the TV and the Philips receiver. You'll need to figure out which inputs are for when the DVD is playing, and when the Blu-Ray is playing.
Start a Blu-Ray disc playing, then cycle through the TV's Input menu until the Blu-Ray is showing video on the screen. Then, cycle through the input settings on the Philips unit until you hear the Blu-Ray's sound coming through the speakers. When both are working at the same time, congratulations, you've succeeded!

First of all, what you have there is commonly called a home theater in a box (HTIB). Phillips along with RCA are the cheapest in terms of quality. Look where it was made %26amp; you'll see why. They assemble these things from the cheapest parts supplier. I can assure you that real soon you'll be throwing it into the trash. So many people here have said that is what they will end up doing. You want Blu-ray, but the only way to take advantage of it is to run the HDMI cable straight from it to a TV with a 1080p resolution. The only way to hear the Dolby HD %26amp; DTS-MA surround is to use a receiver that has that capability. Your HTIB does not.
So this is what you need to do in order to take advantage of Blu-ray.
1. throw your HTIB in the trash or return it if you can.
2. Get a decent receiver like a Yamaha RX-V665
3. Get a set of real speakers like this one: http://signature.crutchfield.com/s_700RF鈥?/a>
4. Enjoy quality.
5. Stop being so cheap.lush cosmetics

What is the difference between Blu-ray anime and Standard anime if they are both animated?
I've been curious for a while. If anime is animated, then how can it be any more clearer to watch, as in be blu-ray?What is the difference between Blu-ray anime and Standard anime if they are both animated?
I debated this myself, but the anime I have on blu-ray does indeed look better. I think it's because the lines are more crisp and possibly I higher vibrancy of colors. Movies also tend to have very detailed backgrounds, which are hard to resolve on DVD. I have also heard that the sound quality is better on blu-rays, but without a nice surround sound system I can't confirm that myself.

Blu-ray also known as Blu-ray Disc (BD), is the name of a next-generation optical disc format, which was developed to enable recording, rewriting and playback of high-definition video (HD), as well as storing large amounts of data. The format offers more than five times the storage capacity of traditional DVDs and can hold up to 25GB on a single-layer disc and 50GB on a dual-layer disc.
So basically that means that you can store more information on a blu-ray disc, which makes it possible to store large HD (high definition) videos on it.What is the difference between Blu-ray anime and Standard anime if they are both animated?
It's not like anime is drawn in 640x480. If the camera used to snap each frame is in HD, then it'll look crisper and cleaner, more like you were looking at the real frames of art.
For older anime, this isn't really the case, though. For that, it's all that digital remastering, which is basically the video version of photoshopping.

Can I hook up different speakers to a blu ray home theater system?
I have a samsung blu ray home theater system and 2 large klipsch speakers. I was wondering if I could unplug the wires from the back of the Samsung speakers and connect them to the klipsch ones. Can I hook up different speakers to a blu ray home theater system?
Short answer; Yes. Without knowing the exact model I can't get detailed specifications for either the Samsung system or the Klipsch speakers. I see that Samsung systems rated at a total of 1000 watts rate the individual front channels at 165 watts. However, many of these systems come with 3 Ohm speakers. The lower that Ohm number is, the higher the amplifier power will be rated. The Klipsch speakers are almost undoubtedly 8 Ohm. Thus your amplifier power will be reduced to about 75 watts or so per channel. Klipsch speakers are known to be very efficient. But they may sill play a little more softly than the 3 Ohm Samsung speakers. Given that are of much higher quality they will sound much better and will most likely play loudly enough with 75 watts to make the neighbors complain. Going to a higher Ohm number is safe. If you were to go the other way you would risk amplifier damage. It is also unlikely that you will blow the Klipsch speakers as long as you don't drive the amplifier into clipping - you will hear some nasty distortion if you do that. Most Klipsch speakers are rated at at least 100 watts. You are safe. Try it. Just make sure that you get the connections right and don't short the amplifier terminals.

How do I to burn an iso image onto a blank blu ray disk to use in a blu ray player?

an iso is an image (archive), not an actual format....
now depending on how you tried to burn it, say only using the built in burner of windows, however, 7 can extract iso archives, all you did was copy the file to the disc...adn no player on this planet reads iso files. How do I to burn an iso image onto a blank blu ray disk to use in a blu ray player?

Is the picture better with a regular Blu Ray player or a PS3?
I know PS3 can play Blu Rays, but I would assume the picture is better on a device that's sole purpose is to play Blu Rays. Unlike the PS3, which is to play games. Which Blu Ray player would you recommend? Thanks. Is the picture better with a regular Blu Ray player or a PS3?
honestly even if the picture would be a tiny bit better which it really isnt, id get the ps3 anyway since it has more functions. its a cheap blu-ray player at the very least. Is the picture better with a regular Blu Ray player or a PS3?
