As with DVDs, I never pay more than $20 for a Blu-ray disc. So just set a price and stick to it.
DVD is not going to "take over" Blu-ray. If anything, Blu-ray will just not catch on. But if you already have a Blu-ray player this won't matter since you can play both Blu-ray discs and DVDs on it.
When Blu-ray discs and movies cost the same as DVDs and DVD players--which they eventually will--guess which one will fade away.

Should I start buying blu ray movies now or never?Well, remember that DVD was over a decade old before studios stopped releasing new movies on VHS.
Blu-ray isn't growing nearly as fast for a variety of reasons - mainly because you really need a large screen HDTV to really take advantage of the higher resolution blu-ray provides.
I don't think blu-ray will be an utter failure, but it's uncertain whether it'll ever fully overtake DVD, as DVD did with VHS. Personally, I think blu-ray will be the next LaserDisk (LD). While LDs provided better video than VHS in its day, they only really appealed to high-end home theater buffs. Blu-ray is the same. For most people, plain old DVD, or even a DVD on an upscaling DVD player, is going to be plenty good enough. Even as blu-ray players approach the $150 mark, blu-ray discs themselves remain around $30-35, while the same movie on DVD is $15-20.
Most of my friends and I are simply renting blu-ray movies from Netflix or Blockbuster. If we really find something outstanding, and would actually benefit from blu-ray, we might consider buying the blu-ray version at some point. A good example would be Wall-E, which my wife and I just loved. But at the same time, we got a copy on DVD as a gift, and the movie's still just as charming on DVD as it was on blu-ray...
As far as the Blu-Ray HD-DVD war went, Blu-Ray won. It will be the standard for HD video.
Right now the discs cost more and unless you have the most kickass HDTV, you might not notice a real difference between BR and regular-*** old DVD.
Also, the media companies are pushing for digital delivery in the next few years. It may be that discs are on the way out.
If they are on sale, BUY them! Some blu ray movies only go for $10 and they quality in image and sound is far beyond what you get with dvd. Just make sure you have a good HDMI 1.3 cable.
Blu ray won't lose, if that's what you're wondering, and it will stay in the market for a long time.
I'd guess blu ray will at least be around for awhile - I see it definately outlasting DVD by a long shot. But will it be the very last movie format - probably not.
