How can I change a Blu-Ray DVD from fullscreen to Widescreen on PS3?

I bought a couple of Blu-Ray movies (made in the 90's) and when I watch them on my PS3, its displayed as full screen. I thought all Blu-Ray movies are displayed as widescreen. Is there a way I can change the format of the screen with the PS3 or my Samsung LCD Flat screen TV?
