What is the difference between standard detail and blu ray for anime?

Does the picture come off more clear? If i were to buy blu ray, would it be full screen on my hd tv? Or would it have a black bar on top and bottom?

The picture in this article pretty much says everything to be said concerning BD/ DVD comparison. You'll notice that on the eyes especially, the pixels are alot tighter and closer, which results in better image quality. If your familiar with media quality terms, SD is 480p , BD is 720p and BD with HDMI is 1080p.

The black bar dosent have so much to do with just being BD as it does with whether the movie was recorded in widescreen format or not, you get that on both DVD's and BD's.What is the difference between standard detail and blu ray for anime?
Difference in quality can only be determined if your watching blu ray materials on an HDTV full HD screen 42 inches and bigger. The black bars appears if the video material's aspect ratio is in letterbox. The reason why some movies have black bars is because the movie or video itself was formatted using the original theater presentation. Depending on the features of certain HDTV, this issue about black bars could be dealt with by stretching, zooming, or cropping to fill up the screen.
